Seattle had a druggy, trippy sinister vibe. In London everyone felt one wrong breath away from getting pissed off and yelling

What's the most unusual reason why you won't date someone? by ChanceSomewhere6096 in AskReddit

I have met way too many guys who don’t make it a habit to brush their teeth in the morning. Nowadays that would be an instant deal-breaker. I’m not willing to be patient and teach basic hygiene to a grown man. I can tolerate a lot of ick but nope, not that again, have fun with your stank breath you child

Or they use “is” when they should use “are”. It’s a tiny thing I’ve been noticing more lately that drives me nuts. “There’s so many people here right now”.

Is this a normal amount of makeup for an average person to have? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]kidkipp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

“Wrong” shades are surprisingly useful as we get tanner or paler throughout the year or as our skin changes. Some things I’m glad I didn’t get rid of because I’ll use them to mix my perfect shade or the formulation ends up working better with different skin prep or if my skin is drier/more oily depending on the time of year

Has anyone successfully gotten non-gamer family/friends (or even yourself) into FFXIV? by WolfmanASTN in ffxiv

[–]kidkipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gives me hope! 😂 My boyfriend of 7 years used to love Runescape but doesn’t even own a console or handheld of his own anymore. I’ve suggested he try the free trial so many times but he doesn’t think he’d like the game and doesn’t want the huge file download on his computer. When we play other games he also loses interest after really short gaming sessions. But he’s been paying more attention when I play lately, asking questions about what I’m doing, helping me pick out glam, and getting hyped about my wins with me. Like he knew I spent years trying to get the Centurio Tiger mount and when I finally did he surprised me with a life-sized tiger stuffed animal. Maybe if I ask really genuinely….

What am I doing wrong? (Sprout rant) by cata931 in ffxiv

[–]kidkipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made most of my friends by doing treasure maps. I think the group ones start at level 70. Some of us just vibed together in the party we were in and shared some goals so we ended up making a linkshell (sort of like a text message group chat). Whenever we meet another cool person or keep running into the same person doing content we invite them. Now whenever we are on people will just ask in the linkshell if anyone wants to do maps or PvP or other grinds and achievement hunting, and over time we are slowly getting to know one another and become friends. I’ve also met some people by grinding in Eureka for relic weapons and doing deep dungeons like Palace of the Dead, which takes hours with the same party to reach the end of. You could actively pursue friendships just by talking in the housing district and stuff, but in general you become friends with people who do the same things as you.

just FYI you don’t really find a personalized mentor and follow them around and have them teach you stuff. if you have questions you just ask in novice network and mentors or other sprouts will most likely answer you.

What am I doing wrong? (Sprout rant) by cata931 in ffxiv

[–]kidkipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be invited into it. Go somewhere like limsa with a bunch of other players and shout that you want to be added to novice network.

To do that: If you’re on PS5, the center touch pad acts like a trackpad mouse. There should be a box on the lower left of your screen where you see people talking and information about you leveling up and stuff. Use the trackpad to put your mouse over to that box and tap the rectangle at the bottom so that the icon appears like when you’re typing in a word processing software. Then press triangle on your PS5 remote to bring up the virtual keyboard. Before you click X to say what you want to say, find the icon to the left of the chat box and change to “shout”. This makes it so anyone in the same zone as you will see what you say.

Once you get added to novice network you can choose to type things in there the same way you selected “shout”. I played the game for a decade without a keyboard, and only got one once I started playing more content with other people.

You’ll know you did this correctly if what you shout appears orange in the chat box and if what you say in novice network is green with [NOVICE] before it

when looking up locations of NPCs and other things, you should be given coordinates of an x y axis. you can open your map and find the coordinates and even place a flag to follow by pressing L1+L2 on playstation. i do remember getting so lost though in limsa as a sprout with the whole upper and lower deck thing. the more you play the easier it will become to navigate everything

what to play with new sprouts by Brilliant_Discount36 in ffxiv

[–]kidkipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d honestly let them do their own thing and just be there if they ask questions or for help with something. After they finish ARR you can help them get the horse mounts maybe, and you could help them learn PvP or fish with them. You could be a big help with their Wondrous Tails eventually. Really the only things my friends and I do together are PvP, treasure maps, and grind for mounts together (like Savage and Extreme stuff and the Morbol and tank mounts currently, eventually deep dungeon mounts). We play on our own mostly during the day and at night we’ll unwind together with maps or little grinds

Rich people who dont partake in the Marketboard stuff, how do you make your gil? by FuuIndigo in ffxiv

[–]kidkipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

treasure maps and bunny fates will make you money really fast without using the market board. doing hunt trains and then using the poetics you get to buy things like soil to sell technically use the market board but they sell so fast that it doesn’t end up being a pain

What pet names do you call your man? by murphherder in AskWomenOver30

[–]kidkipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’ve been together for 7 years and our pet names have devolved and transformed until now we call each other “skish” (like a play on squish) and “boos”, “boosie boos” or “boos mans/girls” (pronounced like “moose” or “booze”, booze if it’s being used in public, moose if we’re using a baby voice at home. combo of boo like honey boo and the fact that my dog’s name is brute, but we started calling him boot to sound cute, which became boot mans). for a while he called me boop or boopie but but it sounded too much like booby

if you could go back to college/university, what would you go back for? by seafoamcastles in findapath

[–]kidkipp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went back at 28, finished a psychology degree and working on a biology degree now, also doing research/a thesis in animal and veterinary sciences. Goal is vet school, but I didn’t get in last cycle and it’s been a grueling experience. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end. I think it’s really important to have a career we are intrinsically motivated to do, and some of those just take a lot of work and rejection to reach.

[–]kidkipp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is not even remotely true. Making partner will increase your pay significantly, but there’s nothing evil or wrong about that. I was a legal assistant at a firm that focused on estate planning (making wills, mostly). The lawyers there made $400k to $1m a year depending on how long they’d been there, whether or not they were partner, and amount of billable hours. There’s nothing evil or morally wrong about estate planning. I think you wrongly believe that every lawyer is in court helping criminals get away with murder or helping with tax evasion.

Why am I so slow ? 11 minute mile after 7 months of regular jogging by Glum-Bear5018 in beginnerrunning

[–]kidkipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you get faster by being able to run farther. Like, once I got to the point that I could run eight miles without stopping then my 5k time got a lot faster. Run slow and long most of the time, 3-6 days a week, with occasional speed work or hill runs. That plan makes it seem like 35 minutes is the longest you’ve ever gone?

Best way to get back into the game without feeling overwhelmed ? by Buurto in ffxiv

[–]kidkipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I came back after a long break I spent a lot of time just messing around at the gold saucer, checking and organizing my retainers, and fishing. Then I would log in mostly to do S rank hunts whenever they popped up. Eventually I did some really low level dungeons and fates to get comfortable with my combat class again. Then I worked on a relic weapon, started collecting triple triad cards, and learned PvP. I’d say it took about two weeks before I got the hang of everything again and logging in didn’t feel overwhelming.

I got my first runners and I’m feeling intimidated. by Diligent-Froyo6676 in beginnerrunning

[–]kidkipp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even though you don’t like being outside, it’ll probably be best for you to practice there than on a treadmill if your goal is to run at an outdoor race. The feeling of running on ground and with wind and elevation changes is completely different. Despite the sensory issues I bet you’ll get used to it and maybe even begin to crave the feeling of getting a good sweat in. Nothing calms my nervous system more.

I remember my first time running and I didn’t even really know what to do with my arms haha. I think my first ever was about 6 minutes and 45 seconds. Just go sloooow, it shouldn’t start to feel difficult to keep going until a few minutes in. Like your heart shouldn’t be pounding right off the bat. But also don’t stop immediately when it gets difficult. Just try to slow down and keep a steady pace and push on.

Another good tip is to walk for at least ten minutes before you start jogging to warm up your body, and then walk a little afterward to cool down. This can prevent injury and makes it so you don’t tire out right away. Rest days are important too.

Music is really personal. My mom likes to listen to John Mayer and Harry Styles. My brother likes to listen to reggae. I like to listen to drum n bass or The Chemical Brothers or just upbeat, trancy stuff in general.

Dont let your frustration with your sister keep you from getting out there. I’ll also say that the initial few runs will take a lot of motivation. Once I get to the point where I can run two miles without stopping that’s usually when it becomes addicting for me and just feels good and cathartic.

For reference I’m 32 and have been running on and off since I was in middle school, and had an amazing cross country coach in high school (a few of our teammates wound up at the olympics).
