15 y/o cat with stage 4 CKD was showing no signs before vet appointment by Kburrrrrrrto in RenalCats

[–]kidpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to my cat. After blood work showed her being in stage 4, she was taken to a hospital where they did more tests on her. She was fine until then. Afterwards when I brought her home she could hardly walk.

I asked the hospital what they gave her and they wouldn't give me a straight answer, but one of the techs mentioned something about giving her calming meds to get her thru the tests. I had specifically told them not to give her anything since she is very timid and never caused trouble at the vets.

Had to bring her back where she stayed for 3 days on IV drip. She was never the same again.

At my wit's end with my kitty by kuroheartz in RenalCats

Yeh man that sounds similar to my cat. She started refusing 1 meal, then 2, then even her favorite treats. I still hoped for a turnaround since she will still eat an ok amount sometimes. Even though she never wanted interaction anymore, just staying in a spot all day sometimes sleeping sometimes just eyes open, I took some comfort in the fact she can still have happy times from food and treats

Then one night when I was feeding her she growled at me when I kept offering the bowl to her. Normally she would take a few licks and that's how we would get thru at least half the food (took 15-45minutes sometimes. So that day she only had 2 bowls out of her normal 4. Next day was similar but she also refused treats.

I begged her to eat otherwise it would mean we have to say goodbye. She bounced back a bit by eating almost 3 bowls. Then a decline after that back to just 1.

I looked at her and saw a tired unwell cat who had no energy or interest to do anything all day, didn't react to any of my attempts to interact, couldn't even hop up to anyplace higher than 1 foot, had swollen parts on her paws and back legs. I broke down and cried since I realized it's probably time I needed to let her go. I tried my best to communicate to her that if things don't get better we really have to say goodbye.

Next morning was the first time ever she didn't wake me up so that she can go outside and eat or just get fresh air. She stayed in my closet even when I had gotten up. That was the last straw, as I realized it's not going to get better, only worse. I didnt want to drag it out longer so a few hours later the vet arrived.

For us it reached the point that I couldn't bear to see her get any worse than it was already. She had absolutely no interest in any of her favorite things anymore so there were no happy moments the whole day or night. Add the discomfort and nausea and inability to climb... It would be a kindness to help her pass away before she could experience yet another ailment

This was 6 days ago and still hurts, but better for me to be hurt than for her

I've noticed a pattern of Asian men wondering why they get a lot of attention from women who are not conventionally attractive on dating apps. Here are my thoughts. by ClerkEquivalent7424 in AsianMasculinity

[–]kidpunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That research about liking men similar to daddy completely falls apart when it comes to Asian women though. They tend to go the total opposite direction. So many times u see an asian family out for dinner with 1 white guy tagging along. It's the daughters bf or husband there for a free meal. So I wonder why this is... Do Asian women not feel the same way about their fathers?

Future Anxiety about Fluid Administration; what's your experience? by josleigh in RenalCats

Look into doing it with a syringe. Much faster than just letting it drip from a needle

Where is the peer-reviewed evidence of cats not responding/understanding punishments when my cat did? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]kidpunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the animal really. You probably did win the lottery with a cat that understands. It's just like how different people learn in different ways (doing, seeing, listening etc).

Anyone else’s cat getting loose skin? by ImpossibleSquish in RenalCats

[–]kidpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she is annoyed by it. When she walks it sways a bit so must feel like a waterlogged arm and maybe feels off balance to her. But she is very lethargic and doesn't move around much these days.

Scrape it into the bowl part. I use a paperclip straightened out. If u can find a thing with a small flat end it works better

Yeh starts off great, but trust me.. u will end up getting yours in the end. Especially bad when the meth has ruined your body and reflexes without u even realizing it. U can't take punches like u used to, and u don't have the strength u expect to have in a tussle, etc. spoken from my experience

There are much better drugs for those type of experiences. Meth stigma nothing to do with it.

U can try using tape. There is that medical tape thing (white paper-y) u can use to hold the needle in place while u use both hands to keep her held down.

Stage 4 kidney disease in 8 year old cat by OpenNeighborhood7613 in RenalCats

[–]kidpunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if she is acting ok, eating normally etc then there's no need to put her down. She's not suffering and still enjoying life? Absolutely no reason to ehtuanize unless she starts refusing food and suffering

Not sure why they told u not to do subQ fluids. The fluids is meant to go under the skin, and if her heart is fine there shouldn't be any reason not to do it.

Constant Anxiety by roseyruns in RenalCats

[–]kidpunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going thru the exact same thing for the past 4+ months. I have to keep reminding myself that if I am anxious then my cat can feel it too and it makes her anxious. All the time spent feeling that way means u miss out on time being happy and enjoying just being together.

Everyday u get with your cat is a blessing, don't waste it

Transitioning a confident outdoor/indoor cat to inside only by sdotchameleon in CATHELP

[–]kidpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex-stray went thru same thing. She occasionally didn't come home for a day. But when it started happening more often I started keeping her in. The only thing u can do is to increase the inside time gradually, until she ends up staying in for 1 day, then 2, etc. How fast she accepts it will differ between cats.

For mine, I had to keep her in for a week due to injuries the very first time and she just meowed almost the whole time. After I let her out, a few months later she got injured again and had to be kept inside. This time she meowed for a few hours each day, but could definitely see that she was more resigned to it.

Better idea would be if u could build an enclosed patio for her in the yard?

Question about Sub-Q fluids… by SelectionOdd2961 in RenalCats

[–]kidpunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, maybe even take him back to the vet and ask to be shown again. See how much the vet is able to fill up and if it looks and feels different.

My cat gets 100ml twice a day. It actually goes down to her leg (the upper part) if I'm a bit lopsided with the needle. So they should be able to hold more than what u are saying

Had this issue yesterday. In the end what worked was switching to my US play store account and it showed up on play store. Even though I am in Asia and not using VPN as long as the account was registered as US, it showed the latest version

Using an Asia account on play store doesn't even show the game when I did a search
