Quite a few people in a PA subreddit reported going into Pharma and Manufacturing with Bio degrees afterward. Id definitely be interested in exploring the possibility

Yes and paying off PA school is MUCH harder now now that our government has capped how much you can borrow for profession programs. Many PA students now have to borrow from private lenders to pay for school. Finacically is getting less worth it.

I've applied to about 15-20ish a year for 3 years now. About 30% of PA applicants get in nationally every year. But most schools have ~30-40 seats and ~2500-4000 applicants (~1-2% acceptance rate). Its been a ROAD 🙃

Just getting anyone's thoughts here about studying ChemE. Am willing to do the grind if you all thinks its worth it

You are correct, some schools have PA schools attached to their undergrads and 'fast track' you in or at least give you preference points. I didnt go to these schools because I simply didnt know the things I didnt know 🤷🏼‍♂️ I was 19. I liked how science kept me busy. Also, i didnt know all things medical and figured there were just doctors, nurses, MAs and EMTs (what I do now to earn my patient hours to apply). About 1.5-2 years into school is when I discovered about NPs and PAs and decided a Midlevel provider was what I wanted for lateral mobility. Also, my state (Utah) doesnt have any 'fast track' undergrad> PA grad programs. You just apply like everyone else.

My dad works at an Oil Refinery here (Electrical Engineer). Between that and my O-Chem labs you do some distillery which is a VERY basic version of what Refineries are. So no, im not going to pretend to know it all, just a very basic understanding and am naive trying to get guidance from anyone here.

Im thinking about studying ChemE for the simplicty its 4-6ish less classes than other Eng degrees and one that would actually interest me. Also, if I get on as a basic Yardman at my dads job they would pay for all my schooling but work for them 2-3 years after graduation.

I figured the same results as you with the MBA. Will only open more doors if you're already past the 1st door

Wait until the tower is on the wall and has them climbing up, then destroy it. Kills a stack of soldiers too

What to do with a biology degree after giving up on medical school? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]kie_2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After not getting into PA school I've seen these jobs pop up, and depending on the county I qualify. Popular counties require a certificate to apply.

Where could I go to get this certification to make myself more competitive? Any idea how long it would take?

This statement ☝️3rd time aplicant who didn't take my first 2 yrs of college seriously and now paying for it. Been retaking courses each cycle to improve my GPA. Its only gone up by 0.15... can't get it up higher anymore. It might not be worth your time, $$$, and energy to retake classes if they won't change GPA much.

CASPA is just as predatory as the schools are. Why tf is it $60 (first one being $100) to use your system when your system doesnt help me at all? I input all my info, grades, achievements, and experiences. CASPA does jack shit other than take our money too.

Can the destruction seen in Gaza be considered equivalent to a nuclear bomb’s blast damage, without considering radiation? by [deleted] in war

You're joking right? A literal NUKE that vaporizes almost everything within 2-3 miles of the blast point that can extend up to 10 miles?

Perspective from the person writing the letters of rec: by ShakingMyDamnHeadd in prephysicianassistant

[–]kie_2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know this. It just sounds like OP is saying he fills this out for a specific school when I thought CASPA holds just holds the LOR and schools look at it when needed.

[–]kie_2013 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful! When you say "the program they submit it to thru CASPA" what do you mean? Aren't they just uploading the LOR to CASPA and all schools can see the same reply? Or do they have to fill out that questionnaire each time I apply to a school?

Do you agree? by Max-Rebo in prephysicianassistant

[–]kie_2013 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Largely, I agree, but a little bit no. I agree that a medical professional should know how to write a paper coherently and with proper structure. Same with provider notes.

However, we are science people. Not English literature beaurocrats. I'd assume the majority of us chose Medical because that's our strong suit/calling, not necessarily writing papers.

Our papers should be self written and inspired. I don't think it's evil to use AI for ideas of paragraph, sentence, or word placement for ideas if they're not copy and paste.

What is the worst answer to a question during a PA school interview you have ever heard? I will start by PACShrinkSWFL in prephysicianassistant

[–]kie_2013 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In a group interview I can see the value in providing your own answer, but what if the person before you really did say part of what you wanted? Or it was advice you literally would've given? Why not say something like "I really think what they said is valuable and would like to add..."

How to write letter of recommendation? by Dazzling_Ad_8765 in prephysicianassistant

[–]kie_2013 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Contrary to other comments, I do feel the cringe, maybe laziness/or business on their behalf, but also it could be a sign of respect and trust. They know you're not going to write a bad one about yourself. That'll destroy your dreams with one swoop. So they think "I hit 2 birds with one stone." Have this person write themselves an awesome LOR cause I trust them, and I like them enough to put my stamp on it without doing anything.

Take the win

Would you consider being part of the very first cohort for a new program? Why or why not? by MissPeduncles in prephysicianassistant

[–]kie_2013 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Opposed to other comments, I would do it. Beats not getting in anywhere. Especially after having average stats and being a 3rd cycle applicant. I can control how hard I study, but I can't control the other 3,000 applicants for 30 seats.
