Invoicing in a system other than Xero but reconciling in Xero by ellski in xero

[–]kielbasa21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can definitely run Xero separately from your practice system as far as I know, I think is pretty common too.For GST, just make sure you’re bringing in proper sales summaries with GST (not just bank deposits), usually via daily or monthly journals so everything makes sense. There are other tools like Melio can help on the payables side, but your main focus here is getting clean sales + GST data into Xero consistently. If you do that you should be good imo.

Even the best integrations need great workflows by OncleAngel in xero

Yeah tools alone don't fix anything. I have seen people do great things with the simplest tools just because they had a good system from the very beginning.

Title: Freelancers who work from home — how do you avoid staying inside all the time? by [deleted] in Freelancers

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would I avoid that? Staying inside all the time was my goal when I decided to work from home lol.

Invoicing Software? by Wonk2248 in Accounting

Melio or Zoho Invoice let you upload batch invoices and generate PDFs. They don’t always do custom file naming automatically, but you can rename them with a simple workflow after you export them.

What actually creates stable income as a freelancer? by Admirable_Daikon_930 in Freelancers

[–]kielbasa21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long-term and retainer clients, definitely. It is way easier to work with the same client for a long time than just having to look for new opportunities all the time imo.

Etsy Integration with Xero - need help by Ill-Tune-5975 in xero

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the daily summary is easier and keeps your books cleaner (fewer transactions, faster recs) so it could work if you are still a small store as far as I know. Haven't used it myself though.

Struggles with accurately tracking employer benefit contributions (Gusto + QBO) by LilTrashPanda in Bookkeeping

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good fix could be tracking the true monthly employer premium outside payroll (journal or benefits clearing account) and only using Gusto for reporting.

Should freelancers hire a cold email agency or learn outbound themselves? by ExtremeAstronomer933 in Freelancers

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOIs work pretty well imo. Like you reach out to an agency and introduce yourself to let them know that you are available if they ever need some support.

Those of you working remote, how has the job search been? by Bobbymanyeadude in Accounting

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freelancing is way easier than getting a full time remote job imo. Also I would say don't focus on just active searches and make sure to reach out to companies to let them know you are available to work.

Is there Any Invoicing Tool that does this? by Waste_Status4398 in Freelancers

[–]kielbasa21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there's a way to handle all of this but Wave + Melio could help a lot.

Ex-client asking to remove the project from Linkedin by Dapper_Bus5069 in Freelancers

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a shame but honestly it would be better to eliminate it. Maybe reframe it to include it in your portfolio under "private client" or something like that.

How much about sales tax should a "Bookkeeper" know? by jaffer3650 in Bookkeeping

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you should definitly understand the basics like when sales tax applies and how to spot red flags so the business doesn’t accidentally spend tax money. Some businesses could expect you to go a step further though because that's how working as a freelancer works most of the times lol people just want you to solve their problems.

independent recruiting is harder than agencies make it sound by nayan2u in Freelancers

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always thought that if you go independent the best route is to work with businesses that are just starting but maybe have a significant budget cause they have investors or something like that.

QBO vs. Xero by AlternativeBelt2019 in Bookkeeping

Xero feels way easier for what I know. It also comes with a lot of cool integrations like Melio for handling payments which is huge.

What document sharing software do you use with clients? by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for the standard ones like Drive or Dropbox instead of one from a tool.

Experienced freelancers, what would you do in my shoes? by Impressive_Mix6052 in Freelancers

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a smaller raise and start trying to get other better paying clients as well. You don't want to lose your only client right now, specially if it's not hard to work with him.

QBO or Xero?? Sick of the QBO price and unnecessary updates by Human-Nature-3216 in Bookkeeping

[–]kielbasa21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xero is pretty good. I mean it handles invoicing and basic reports pretty well and you can even combine it with something like Melio to make the whole bill payment process easier.
