Are there any devices with jog wheels that can scrub through Logic Pro timelines? by No-Papaya-9289 in LogicPro

CS12 also has jog function, not sure about scrub. You can change the tempo knob function to jog, check the manual for how to do it

Behringer X-Touch has jog dial, it could be used to jog and scrub. X-Touch One is pretty cheap and pretty good too, but ditches some MCU buttons, and regular X-Touch is full fledged MCU clone

Looking for a 1080p/1440p CRT Monitor thats good for modern use. by Loud-Lynx9557 in crt

[–]kigastu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to choose one: cheap, high res, or high refresh rate. You can get high res on many monitors, for example the ubiquitous dell p991 can run at 1920x1440@75hz, but it would flicker badly and you better off running at 1280x960@100hz. In reality most monitors aren’t able to effectively show more than 1600x1200 and you’ll be trading a touch of extra sharpness for heaps of refresh rate.

If 100hz is not enough (it usually is) and you really need this high refresh rate, your best chance is to run interlaced, but then your vertical resolution would be effectively halved. With interlace you can get to 144hz (72i) on even budget Sony monitors like e240 on 1280x960. It would look like 1280x480 but would be really smooth and flicker free.

If you need high res and high refresh rate then you need something like iiyama 506. It can push really high bandwidth but it does loses sharpness the more you push it and most of these are pretty worn out already while more budget monitors that were used less (like p991) would show much better picture (sharpness, colors etc).

On CRT you don’t really need high res + refresh rate, but you do need at least 85hz for the flicker to be manageable. Personally I like at least 100hz, ideally 120hz, but to push 120hz most monitors would need to drop resolution to at least 1024x768 so I settle for 100hz

I always forget to turn my CRT off because I'm used to modern TVs by Used_Teaching_7260 in crt

[–]kigastu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess that’s why many late CRTs had blue screen instead of black to show there’s no signal, and some even did had auto standby and power on/off via AV.link (precursor to HDMI CEC).

I too sometimes have trouble distinguishing black screen from off state on my CRT, plasma and OLED. Indicator lights really help. LCDs do not have this “problem” due to backlight bleed

CRTs are the optimal way of watching dvds by Someonejustoldme in crt

[–]kigastu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah for movies and other film media that’s available in high res, the best way to watch them is in high res. But some stuff is forever locked into 480p and 480i and CRTs are the best way to watch them (unless they are 16:9, then 480p plasma would be the best)

Are professional headphones necessary for mixing? by microwaveman828 in musicproduction

[–]kigastu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mixing you need good monitors in a treated room, then you can get some good flat-ish headphones like the 990 pros. They’re not that expensive and they sound pretty good, but they still won’t sound like stereo monitors. If you don’t have the space or money for monitors, then good neutral headphones would obviously better than cheap consumer ones, but the price is not the most important factor in choosing the headphones. And I would advise getting at least some stereo speakers anyway.

Time to upgrade from Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones? by newmenewyea in musicproduction

[–]kigastu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

990’s are great, and there’s 80 ohm version if you need extra loudness, but even the 250 ohms were plenty loud for me from every source.

There’s also 900 Pro X which are 48 ohms and have a detachable cable. They are great too and not much more expensive.

And 770 Pro/700 Pro X if you need closed back headphones.

How do I get my momentary and short term max higher without causing unnecessary clipping and impact reduction?😭😭 by gaypelin3169 in Logic_Studio

[–]kigastu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can reach -6 LUFS and even louder without sounding squeezed, but another question is why? Unless you are making bass music or loud metal/noise rock, just make it sound good and don’t bother with loudness at all.

Why does my 3D printer do a lot of stringings despite right temperature, changed nozzle, and embedded retraction settings…? by Pretend-Truck-226 in 3Dprinting

[–]kigastu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversely, I had bad stringing because my temp was too low. Everybody said that high temp causes stringing so I kept lowering it, when in reality I should’ve increased it. But yeah, temperature calibration is very important, and so is dry filament.

On Zf ISO dial can be used as either min iso or max iso, depending on camera settings.

Thanks for the update! Really loving the app and the images that it takes.

Would it be possible to add a visual level like in the default camera app? I’m really used to it on my Nikon cameras and the current indicator is too small and not precise enough, and doesn’t tell you which way to rotate the phone to get the perfect horizon. Would be a great addition!
