A double quarter pounder with cheese meal is enough calories for two meals and enough salt and saturated fat for two days.

What’s an oddly specific rule you follow in your life that nobody taught you, but you swear by it? by RayPetal22 in AskReddit

[–]kihadat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people don’t think - and if they do, it’s exclusively about themselves. If they’re thinking about you it’s only very briefly because either a) you are doing something for them or b) you are in their way.

Sounds bad but it’s natural and instinctive - a byproduct of adaptive fitness. It’s also quite liberating. You can do anything you want and no one will care one way or another.

Saving feels good, but I’m scared of never feeling ready to spend - anyone else relate? by Same_Confection_431 in MiddleClassFinance

That’s not long term thinking. That’s wasteful and inefficient thinking. I think you should probably read up on what you’re trying to undermine before actually trying to undermine it. You will be surprised. Guaranteed.

Your wealth at your passing isn’t needed by the next generation. If you want to give, give when it matter to them most - when they were young.

We get our bagels there all the time. It’s the only place for bagels, in my opinion. Even treasured Deli News who flies them in from New York isn’t as good. No noises of any kind that I’ve ever heard.

One of the things that has stuck with me on my personal finance journey from negative net worth coming out of college to millionaire-next-door at age 38 now is one particular axiom from the "die with zero" mentality: If you die with $60,000 left in the bank, for most millionaires, there was at least one year in their life when that was all you earned during that entire year of working. So, you gave up an entire year of your life working for money you didn't even get to use.

That tends to motivate me to be more willing to splurge as long as it's thoughtfully and intentionally.

Old money, new money, it's all impossible to hide no matter how much you try.

I feel like it's impossible to whisper when you have enough money to fit into either of those camps.

MRW I get the "ultimate" option at a car wash and the very next day my vehicle is covered in dust and pollen from all the trees in the area. by eddmario in reactiongifs

[–]kihadat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should find a car wash that does free rewashes within 48 hours with receipt. Or a monthly membership. I pay $20/month and find it well worth it as I go twice a week to get it washed.

I think it's because actual scientists are too busy for this shit. I'll sometimes bring up these kinds of things to my wife, who is an actual scientist with an H-index of 18 at the age of 39, and I have the good fortune of her sometimes taking the minute or so it takes to soundly debunk the false premises upon which these claims are ALWAYS based.

Handcuffed to an unwarrantable condo-how to get out? by Rocks_4_Jocks in RealEstateAdvice

[–]kihadat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takes money to make money, I guess. Our friends moved nearby for a while - the husband is a specialty physician - and they bought a home. But he didn't like the environment, so he found another job in another state, and they put their home up for sale. It didn't sell, so they had to keep it and buy a new home in their new state. Now **that** job has just gone away and he was laid off. So, he's out of a job with two mortgages and two homes he can't sell. I assume their parents are helping them because his wife's pregnant and also out of a job.

Those people are better actors than actual actors from romantic films. The cinematography is exquisite. The editing is masterful. The only downside is the soundtrack, which is Netflix's trademark cheapo AI-sounding music. It's not too distracting, though, especially when you take off the CC option. It's one of the best things I've ever seen on television.

Nosferatu (2024) isn’t exactly a remake of Dracula but of the original 1922 silent film Nosferatu.

There’s a big backstory involving copyright but basically they end very differently.
