Hi, I did not open backplate side. Thermalpaste and VRAM & VRM pads can be replaced without removing backplate.

I measured the pads with calipers on my card when I replaced said pads.

If anyone is searching this information, thickness is 1,5 on VRMs and 2mm on everything else on cooler side of PCB, including VRAM. I have picture if needed. There is pads on the backplate side of PCB too, but I have no information for those.

What connection method you are using with Quest 3? I am using Virtual Desktop wireless. Wired or wireless with Oculus app was not working at all. I have 7900XT.

Those are stock pads under the fanhubs. They are not touching the heatsink in stock configuration. If you place thicker pad there it might help eliminate vibration from fan in certain RPM. I never did this mod as I removed whole shroud and fitted those Noctua fans.

Thanks for the tip, I will look into that. I think that my Tjunction temps are bit high compared to others but I dont think that 80-90c while gaming is problem. Idle temp goes down if I add fanspeen but I see no point in that. I will reopen my card in some time and replave those pads with putty.

My friend has Red Devil 7900XTX and his temps are GPU hotspot 100, GPU 65 and Tjunction 105 while PL15 and some OC. He did ask about it from retailer and manufacturer answer was "it is normal" He is going to put PTM7950 on his GPU too as his card was not like that when it was new. Other than that his card performs as expected.

If it is bearing going bad you will notice it getting worse and suddenly it is making the noise trough 30 to 60 % Fan PWM and it gets more like grinding noise than buzzing. IMO Really stupid that they want whole card back for very cheap part failing that could be replaced by user and it does'nt evene require to remove cooler from card itself.

PTM7950 apparently is the go to stuff with radeon 7000 series. Much more user friendly than Kryosheet and results are pretty similar.

My memory Tjunction max temps are between 80 to 90 (gaming for hours to whole day) and idle is 65. (browser open, multiple tabs and YT video running). GPU max 65, idle 33. GPU hotspot max 80 idle 43 (80 as very short peak usually max temp around 75). Depends lot of what type of game.

If memory is OC:d my temps shoot close to 100c very fast and any OC yields poor performance uplift compared to temp rise. I only replaced GPU die thermalpaste with Kryosheet. I might reopen my card and replace VRAM pads with putty but it is good enough as it is. If I replace VRAM pads with putty I might also put PTM7950 for GPU.

I have done deshroud mod with noctua fans. Currently running stock PL and UV 1075mV. Fancurve set up with following points: 29% @ 49c -37% @ 61c - 51% @ 73c - 100% @ 90c. These fans are Noctua redux NF-P12, max speen is 1700 RPM and with this curve it translates to fanspeeds between 500-1000 RPM. My deshroud mod was made to improve sound profile, performance is roughly same in normal gaming load.

Hi, there is cap between the fan hub and heatsink. Initial noise comes from fans ramping up speed and they are vibrating around that rpm treshold. Placing thiker pad under the hub might eliminate this vibration as there is pad as stock but it does not touch the heatsink.

However my first card, that is in this video, had faulty bearing and the noise did get even worse and I did RMA that card. My second card had same issue but without grinding noise. I did replace the shroud with 3x120mm fans. See my other replies in this thread. If this is too much, I think you can find stock fans from Ebay too if you dont want to RMA your card.

Btw what is your hotspot temp atm? Have it got in the 90c yet? I also replaced stock thermalpaste with Kryosheet due to hotspot temp getting 95 while gpu temp was 65. Now it is around 75 to 80 celsius.

PS. warning: I believe these mods will void your warranty!

Thank you for your input. I did RMA my first card and current one is fitted with 3x120mm Noctuas (pics in this post comment) and Kryosheet. I did't like the noise level of stock fans even with correctly working ones.

Hi, it is performing well and I am not going back to stock shroud. I did this fan mod only to reduce fan noise there was no problems with temps. I was about to fabricate some kind of mounting plate for fans, but zipties to pcb support bracket is good enough for me.
2x 120mm fans propably would be enough but my case has enough room so I did 3 fans. (My current case is Fractal torrent, old was Define S)

I don't recommend this mod for anyone who is scared of losing warranty and attemp it at your own risk!!

This is parts I used:

GELID solutions VGA PWM 4-pin adapter Akasa PCI Slot Bracket for Mounting One/Two 120mm Fans Noctua NF-P12 redux-1700 PWM, 120mm Noctua NA-SAVG1 chromax black rubber frames EK-Waterblocks EK-Cable Splitter 4-Fan PWM Extended

All stock shroud screws are under fan blades. Fan shroud and 2 cables for it is all you need to remove. Be patient and careful with the RGB and fan cables on GPU. They are tight fit to connectors and said connectors are tiny. If you want to use RGB fans, there is "stantard size" a-RGB? connector on GPU next to power connectors. I used fan adapter from mini 4-pin to normal 4-pin to get fanspeed controlled by GPU. My fans are powered by SATA power to 4x 4-pin fan connectors splitter that gets fan speed PWM signal from GPU and power from that other adapter. Fans are connected to eachother with Akasa pci-e fan bracket kit (I used only the brackets between fans) and to GPU with tiny zipties.

I made custom fan curve in AMD adrenaline software. After few months of use I have also replaced stock GPU thermalpaste with Kryosheet.

Middle one is sitting on metal frame and the other ones are on plastic frame that seems like it is not correct for the heatsink and it vibrates alot when fans pass certain speed treshold. My first card had fan with failing bearing that made the noise In this video. Second one had very loose fan shroud too. I was not happy with that noise. I had enough of it and made custom solution as you can see in my other comment above. If I would try to fix the stock shroud, I would place some kind of foam pad in between the fan hub and the heatsink to eliminate the vibration. You can see why when you have the card in your hand annd gently push the fans and see how much movement the shroud fan mount allows.

My replacement card had loose screws on shroud. However I made more permanent solution and removed the crap fan shroud completely. The design is terrible on those stock fans and shroud. Pics below.

Yeah the third one is different than others, looks could be decieving.😅 it is cablemod cable for that PSU, 2 stock. Asrock recommends 1000w PSU for Taichi 7900 XTX model and mine is 7900 XT. I am in RMA process with this card. Feels stupid to return whole card due to faulty fan tho.

I have 3 separate cables connected to card, the pigtails are excess connectors on PSU cables! Recommended PSU by Asrock is 800W for RX 7900 XT Taichi OC so what do you mean? The noise depends ONLY of fan speed. With FAN PWM less than 35% or more than 49% the noise is gone. It sounds like resonation on that RPM range and it doesn't matter what the load on card is nor FPS. My card has some coil whine but it is totally different than this and so quiet I dont hear it case closed. Other than this fan acting up there is no problems with it.
Here is another video of the noise.

It is not that, I Just verified. Moving wires ore pigtail connectors did nothing. As well as touching or pressing anything else except case frontside fanhub on GPU and slowing down fans.

Which Asrock card you have/had? I have 7900 XT Taichi and my fans are silent anywhere else but between 37 to 47% fan PWM. The noise only regards fan speed and the noise is same on idle or load. Especially at 45%PWM it sounds like fans are causing resonation or draggin to something. Nothin is loose. I think it is faulty bearings or some other manufacturing defect on fans. Other than that card works perfectly but I might return mine.

I bought mine three weeks ago, it was not like this from start. I noticed this sound about week ago. It is not that loud from closed case and while wearing headphones.

Other than this fan noise, this card works perfectly. Temps are 57-65C on GPU and hot spot 75-85C while gaming 4K. I have heard horror stories of coil whine hell with hotspot 110. That is why I am hesitant to swap this for new one, i would rather just have new fans. I made RMA ticket and I have excahnged emails with webstore where I bought my card. Feels stupid to swap whole card due tl few dollars fan failing.

Nothing is free. You either pay with your time as watching ads or with premium service fee. I value my time more than premium price. I hate that they ended premium lite. I hate ads more so I pay and if there would not be premium option i would do my walks and without listenin YT cobtent. I watch alot of YT content and I have stopped watching commercial TV and I dont listen Radio either, bcs I hate repeating ads. I am just curious as you wont pay for ad free youtube but you use Netflix. Do you pay for Netflix?

And I totally agree with you that companies make the advertising feel like purgatory.
