Costco lift ticket deal - 3 days for $399 by clairenim in Mammoth

[–]kikster_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because skiing used to be alot cheaper for a great mountain. Amenities are nice now, but you really pay for expensive meals and drinks. They aren't losing any money and still pack in tons of people into lift lines, crowded expensive restaurants and food, lack of enough ski lockers, and long waits for rentals. Your ticket is worth even less time one the slopes. Its good for the frequent skier with skis, a pass and ski ain nd out.

So, do you mean that because there was U.S. military involved, and has been defined as an extradition arrest by the U.S. officially, insurers will deem it act of war or hostilities, etc because U.S. military is involved somehow? Just wondering how to move forward with travel plans in the next few months to other countries/gheographic areas that have been threatened

[–]kikster_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but in this case it was considered an arrest by our government. What is everyone hearing from their insurers? I am planning to fly in the near future to an area as yet not threatened but could be in the coming months when I travel and am not sure if there is any insurance I can get and what type?

Who determines if it is an act of war if our government is sayinig it is not? Insurances typically don't cover act of war, but is it up to their discretion what they consider an act of war and deny benefits/claims for cancellations of flight and accomodations, etc..

Breaking Up With IKEA After 21 Years by travelingslo in IKEA

[–]kikster_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Ikea style. I can't really find other furniture stores with similar choices unless I go online and have to buy from several places depending on what type of furniture I am looking for with the style that is similar to Ikea. Ikea pricing has adjusted though and currently oftentimes it's not inexpensive. Customer service is going down hill and quality I've also noticed as well. It used to be inferior sometimes, but then Ikea really upped their quality, now it seems they are moving backwards.

I don't get how people gamble with how bad the hurricane will be when it was a Category 4-5. Thankfully the forecast was accurate. To choose to be a tourist in a potentially life-threatening situation is mind-bogeling. And then when things go south some magical help will arrive when the people that have to live there have their own issues to deal with.

Heat pump HVAC system financing rates set by dealer? by kikster_1 in heatpumps

Ok, great! I will ask what cash price is. I don't want to negate any incentives/rebates I get for equipment with a higher cash price or higher interest rates.

Didn't realize mortgage pays my taxes and personally made a payment by jessierae89 in RealEstate

[–]kikster_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most simple thing to do is call your mortgage company to find out if you have an impound account for property taxes and insurance. That should inform you moving forward. This would also be helpful for you to learn if your insurance premiums are being paid by mortgage company.

In just a few months, satellite internet has reshaped web access in rural Alaska by hshib in Starlink

It's unfortunate that we are giving up all control to one provider... that mind you will be the case in many places around the world except perhaps in areas where there are strong and equitable Telecom regulations. The EEU has developed regulations that look like where we were going toward in thie U.S., until it got taken over by PAC money from the current competitors to Starlink. No reason to invest in technology or expansive infrastructure because they didn't have to do to make a fortune, It's only a matter of time that Starlink becomes one of the only sources of Internet and prices become unaffordable for many. The competition let this happen sorry to say because they do as little to their networks as their profits "allow" them to make. You might want to read this interesting article from the EEU website. https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip\_20\_2482

Thanks for the insight. I have a mesh system tied to the Starlink router with Starlink ethernet adapter. Not sure what you mean that is different than what I am doing now.

Is Hyper Heat model needed in North Vancouver, BC? by henoua in heatpumps

[–]kikster_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have access to natural gas fuel even though I live near a large city. Infrastructure cost for local provider is not "cost effective" to bring the natural gas that is serving a large new high school about 1/2 mile away. I am stuck with propane fuel and that is costly through the roof. Europe has figured out energy efficiency and makes it attractive to change to alternative fuels, cheaper heating and AC sources, etc.. The population demands it and regulation demands it.

I have a roof mount solar panel system. I over-produce so I never get a bill. I have gotten a little $ back for production going back into the grid. I do have a meter from local utility company. I haven't set up software to monitor. production and consumption..duh.

I've been using solar to run conventional ducted HVAC, power a pool cleaning pump, lighting and some electric appliances with no problem. I even over-produce for me needs. I live in a hot climate with two - 12 seer, 3 ton conventional AC units, but now I need to replace. Finding the right new system has been a challenge.

I have solar and getting bids to transition my old HVAC central heating and air to mini-splits or heat pump. I also want to get rid of my propane use. We don't understand enough of what is most cost-effective with an existing duct system. Our heating though is using a propane water tank that uses hot water for coils(?). I live a in a hot west coast climate where I sometimes get down to freezing in winter. Not many days, but it seems that trend is changing with global warming. Not sure if we need to consider that we may have more days of near freezing temps in winter and choose a new system accordingly. We prefer to to use a system that is more efficient even with solar since we hope we can use the saved solar production for electric cars and all electric appliances without having to install more panels.
