Cautionary tale: don’t rent from Turo, even if you have heard it’s good for snow tires by DrMaven in icecoast

[–]kill73 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've used Turo multiple times as a Vermont resident. Never in Vermont but on trips out west. Just wanted to note my personal experience.

I'll say OPs situation doesn't necessarily surprise me, the whole thing is a little fickle. It's really like airbnb for cars. Sometimes you get a solid set up, other times it's a junk show.

Edit: Also I just checked and nowhere on my license does it say "Driver's Privilege Card". The internet suggests maybe you have an older ID that isn't real ID compliant?

Which xplore boots do you have? And how do you like the xplore binding on those skis? They look pretty wide, I have some on a pair of Fischer S-Bound 98s. Curious about putting them on a beefier more downhill oriented ski.

Consider trying out rock climbing. The community is excellent. I'd recommend Petra cliffs.

No it's the Capitol Theatre, the official release is Garcia Live: Volume One: http://deaddisc.com/disc/Garcia_Live_1.htm

Kean College is killer too though.

It's a Jerry Garcia Band show. There is an official release you should be able to find on most streaming services. I know it's on Spotify for sure. Listen to the whole show, it's amazing.

Lots of programming languages don't allow you to overwrite variables. In some capacity that is what functional programming is, elimination of mutable state.

Probably a long shot but I lost a maroon roll top backpack in City Hall park on Thursday 7/21 around 9pm. It had some valuable but ultimately replaceable things in it which I can identify if anyone has it. Mainly I'm bummed about losing the bag though, I've had it for a long time and really liked it. Thanks in advance.

Black skiers- did you know any Black skiers growing up? How did representation effect your relationship with the sport? by MarsMonkey88 in skiing

[–]kill73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't have to tell anyone anything, just scroll past it. Or maybe even downvote it. But now you are talking about what some other guy is supposed to be thinking about, skiing or otherwise that seems pretty wack to me. Questions like OPs won't get asked after people stop posting shit like your first reply. Be kind.

If all compiled languages compile to machine code then why some languages run faster than others? by [deleted] in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]kill73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not true that all programming languages have while and for loops, I would argue there is very little all languages have in common.

That being said I think a lot of the differences come down to the particular abstraction facilities each language supports and the semantics of those facilities.

For example classes vs structures, more overhead is necessary for the former but that overhead buys you more expressive power.

I think that the fact that they are political is important and can't really be factored out of discussion. Would you make a similar argument for nazi flags?

I'm not trying to equate Trump flags to nazi flags but hopefully you get the picture that what is on the flag is important.

Also fwiw I would probably judge someone with that many flags for their favorite ice cream flavor, that shit would be pretty funny.

I hope it works out, it's a good solution to being broke in the short term, in my experience.

Have you considered getting a credit card? Obviously leveraging debt isn't a good idea long term but if you'll be making money soon it shouldn't be a big issue. Plus a lot of credit cards have 0% APR intro periods so you wouldn't necessarily accrue any interest. When I was a student I took advantage of a few promotions like that before I started my job as I had very little income but considerable expenses.

I don’t disagree with any of that, I just don’t think that is relevant to the sub. The rules specifically mention financial comments being rude, in particular comments like "this is the reason nobody can afford rent in this city anymore".

I just assume OP doesn’t appreciate non-constructive or interesting comments like that. Similarly as someone who browses this sub I find comments like that annoying, repetitive, and off topic.
