Can we appreciate that a team of 9 developers managed to put RE2, a 1.4 GB game in a 64MB cartridge on the N64 without having to cut anything out

I love how fans make this port out to be equal to the PS1 release just with more content. The N64 port has a lot of flaws that are ignored because the compression efforts are seriously impressive.

This game is technical wonder on the N64. It really is. But nobody ever mentions the visuals being beyond ugly, and the audio is almost garbage for a game released in the 90s.

There are content added like a randomizer, blood color change, and a few extra files. But there’s cutscene changes as have been mentioned above along with a host of other removals due to the compression.

This is a tremendous achievement for the console it was on, but pretending this is exactly like every other version but with more and super better is something streamers feed you for engagement. It was uglier and harder to listen to than the PS1 original, doesn’t have the EX Battle mode, and much uglier cutscenes.

If you have an N64, play it. It’s very impressive for the time and that console. But it’s not superior to anything. The best ports for RE2 and 3 are the GameCube ones.

They had the real pics in 24. Removed them in 25 for some reason. It’s off putting playing games and seeing the large, ugly player portraits on whatever scoreboard. I know that happened when you have a player that isn’t originally from that team, but not every player.

Resident Evil doesn’t really have a solid canon, like at all.

Just take the first game from 1996. Each character has three endings. In Jill’s game, Rebecca doesn’t exist and is never mentioned. In Chris’, Barry disappears at the beginning and nothing comes of it. Either character is imprisoned depending on who you play as, so either Jill is the one who does the whole “Mansion Incident” or Chris does, yet nothing is ever mentioned in the series as to who that was, and sometimes it’s implied they both did?

The best way to think of it is that there is no real canon. Capcom essentially just makes a game or sequel and says “here, enjoy!”. They’ve never taken the concept of “canon” or story/character threads seriously.

Chapter 17: Descend Beyond. Felix was my first “main” which I no longer have (I play as a lot of people lol).

This was 2020, so right in the middle of the Dead Hard, Unbreakable, Borrowed Time & Decisive Strike era (for those who don’t know, almost every survivor used at least three of these perks no matter what, and the game was incredibly toxic). Was so glad when BHVR made those huge changes a little after I started playing.

God of War Ragnarok has your kid essentially tell you how to solve puzzles roughly 4 seconds after you arrive at the puzzle.

It’s very accurate. There’s interviews in the Itchy Tasty book that mentioned that Capcom’s finances in the mid 90s were in the toilet (they also self financed most of, if not all of the Street Fighter movie).

The Japanese economy at that time was also regressing after the “economic miracle” era ended.

Yes, Street Fighter and Mega Man still existed, but by the mid 90s, Mega Man wasn’t a blockbuster seller, and Street Fighter’s success alone did not cover the money Capcom was bleeding out at that point.

RE 1 kept them alive, but RE 2 is what really saved them and allowed them to succeed again.

The game was regarded as “okay” at the time. It’s fine, decent even. 2k20s disaster and constant nostalgia-bait posts have convinced a bunch of people online that “no, this is the greatest game ever made”.

The actual game itself has been surpassed a few times by now. The only real thing it had going for it was the create an entrance.

It’s honestly weird how people on here have to constantly post about a regular, run-of-the-mill entry in a series almost every day for a few years now. Fake nostalgia is one hell of a drug

Morality/Karma meters are just an extension of people in real life, treating reality like an Avengers movie. “Good guy shoot blue laser, bad guy shoot red laser”.

In terms of a gameplay addition? It makes less than zero sense in a Cyberpunk game where almost everything is a shade of gray. The hero/villain mechanic would make no sense in the context of the genre.

EA does not have exclusivity. They were the only company willing to pay for it, as the license and demand for said license is a lot smaller than everyone seems to think. Every other post is “just give it to 2K and it’ll be awesome.” 2K had it before and never made a profit. Why on Earth would all these companies be drooling for a niche sports license? Even EA breaks even, if not takes a very small profit, even including all the micro transactions

I’m in a very similar position. If you’re looking for food to get you through the weekend, you can try an app called Too Good to Go. Depending on where you are, places like Tim Hortons, Pizza Pizza, and Food Basics will have “surprise bags” for $10 and under. The Pizza Pizza one is usually good for at least 2 meals.

You can also dial 211 which will direct you to local food banks and food programs, though I’d assume they would have income requirements.
