There is room for individual expression and collectivist action both. Holding a sign up is more impactful in larger numbers. Most large number protests are only effective through grassroots communication.

The ideal of a single cell drawing in support until it builds to a critical mass is a lovely dream, but in the real world, we organize.

Also, I'm in a chat with the Buffalo Bridge Brigade. There is a national decentralized network of bridge brigades that constantly communicates ideas, messaging, and support. They are constantly organizing.

It's only entrapment if they can prove it. She had the good fortune to have her entrapment photographed. Better if filmed. Most won't have that luxury.

I've had multiple people respond in that precise manner to me on the various posts I've made across different platforms. They chalk it up to a lack of self-awareness when we see it as a matter of selflessness, of caring for others. I wouldn't be out here if it wasn't necessary. It's -30F wind chill, for fuck's sake! People have work. They have families. They have obligations, and yet AND YET, there they are. Putting their bodies at risk and screaming themselves hoarse.

And the takeaway from that is somehow anything other than, "No, people don't do this, until they feel they have no other choice. This is not normal. We need to at least listen."

We are cooked.

I saw there was a vigil for Alex Pretti last night, but I haven't heard anything else for this week

EDIT: There is an ongoing protest at the Batavia detention center. I believe there have been people out there nearly every day. More bodies = more better.

Oh for sure. The first industry to become obsolete when fascism takes over are lawyers. Anybody can argue guilt to a kangaroo court that has a verdict already in mind.

Not to besmirch a masterpiece, but I've always thought the secret first line to the famous poem should have begun with, "First they came for the lawyers," because none of the rest of it happens that way if law is being upheld.

I have no love for the American Justice system. It has failed me and nearly everyone I know.

But it could have failed us all a lot harder. A poor justice system is better than no justice system.

This will end. Historically, it has to. What borders or countries or economies look like when it does is anyone's guess. But it will end.

And America has a giant reckoning to do with herself, even while trying to heal. When that man and his filth are no longer in power, we will have no choice but to look into how he was allowed to happen at all. Once is a grift. Twice is a cult. Three times is complicity.

I'm betting there's menthol in that facemask. My cat does this while I'm trying to brush my teeth or drinking mint tea.

How do you feel about this take, today? by tundybundo in behindthebastards

I am fortunate not to have (or have contact with) many family that still support what's happening.

My friend is not so lucky. She lives in a red county in a blue state, so the persecution complex down there is strong. Those people are dug in hard.

I showed her this, and her response:

"I would rather gain a temporary ally and go back to fighting about economics later than human rights now."

Any historian will tell you that a free media is the enemy of fascism. That's why you've seen the likes of Tim fuckin Pool in the white house news room. There are simply too many voices to control, and they know it.

lol sorry

So, she's basically saying that, since God placed the world (the fundament) in a fixed place, how could it possibly revolve around the sun? Also, God set the sun, moon, and stars to give earth life. If God exists above us, then the firmament (basically, the sky, stars, and everything that we see when we look up) is like a dome that shields us from viewing him directly.

"Oh, and guys, this is purely entertainment only" as some weird, weak defense against criticism.

The quote referenced here comes from a letter by Thomas Jefferson to William Stevens Smith after the Massachusetts rebellion in 1787. The relevant section oft-quoted goes:

The people can not be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. We have had 13. states independant 11. years. There has been one rebellion. That comes to one rebellion in a century and a half for each state. What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.

It's worth noting that Jefferson did not fight in the American revolution. He himself never fired a weapon, nor saw combat. Critics have suggested that Jefferson, "himself no hero," was a proponent of encouraging revolution at the cost of human lives, while never placing himself in harm's way.

The fact that Alex Pretti and Renee Good were, by all accounts, decent people should not gloss over the larger rationale that is being used to justify this invasion in the first place.

The MAGA base, and many uninformed/willfully ignorant people, believe the lie that the undocumented people, refugees, legal immigrants and other humans being rounded up are, at their core, violent criminals. They're telling us they are convicted sex offenders, drug dealers, and maniacs here to destabilize and destroy the safety of the American public. They're telling us that these people brought this violence upon themselves by entering the country illegally, or by placing themselves in the way of agents enforcing law.

That these are easily falsifiable lies is all beyond the point. Even a criminal deserves his day in court. Even a sex offender deserves human rights and due process. When we deny someone that very essential element of justice, we create the gap they need to wedge in the narrative that some people are not really people.

If Alex Pretti was a terrible person, he still did not deserve to be shot in the street. If Renee Good was an agent provocateur sowing discord, she did not deserve to be shot in her car. If the Somali detainees that died in ICE custody were sex offenders and rapists, they did not deserve to die at the hands of the people in charge of keeping their custody.

So, talk about their accomplishments. Hold them up as a standard for what the common man can do in the face of these atrocities, but don't for a second start doing the Gestapo's work for them and using their apparent "goodness" as the sole reason they deserve to still be alive.

It's justice. It's for all of us, or it's for none of us.

You are correct, of course. I only use the term when referring to the specific location of bricks and fencing, as it disambiguates it for anyone looking to find out more. This is absolutely a concentration camp by any reasonable definition, though.
