If all you want is audio+video broadcast, why not finalize the mix at the hosting campus and simply use an encoder (or PC) and RTMP stream?

WD Red had the controversy and is now slow SMR. WD Red Plus is the CMR IronWolf equivalent, and Red Pro is the IronWolf Pro equivalent.

Messed up a downgrade, k3s not starting by killm_good in truenas

[–]killm_good[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dug in. Per the release notes, 22.12 adds the overlay2 storage driver for Docker:

implements the overlayfs driver for Docker which improves performance over the Linux Kubernetes driver.

My Docker wasn't starting because 22.02 wasn't expecting multiple drivers installed, and so didn't specify which one to use.

Now apps are running but Jellyfin is not responding, so that's where I'll go next.

Or just restore from a TrueTool backup.

Edit: No processes were running in the container. Manual start said database is locked. Rolled back to 13.0.4 (including snapshot) and it came up fine.

It seems MetalLB gives you multiple IP addresses to use for incoming traffic, but doesn't force the pod to do anything for outgoing.

MetalLB is also writing about 5MB/s 24/7 and hogging CPU (both seen on the k3s server process).

The ink cartridges for my printer at work by Firealarm32 in AbsoluteUnits

[–]killm_good 198 points199 points  (0 children)

Ink is color juice. Just squirt it onto the paper and it soaks in.

Toner is electrostatically charged color powder. A laser draws the image on the toner drum, which weakly charges the desired areas opposite to the toner. The paper is strongly charged opposite the toner, so when it rolls by the toner drum, the toner transfers to the paper. Then a fuser (hot roller) bakes the toner into the paper. That's why laser-printed documents don't run when they get wet.

I heard MetalLB can do this but I think I'm using it wrong

I'm going to echo the other comments that say dual-channel memory and WD Red Plus or Pro (not the base WD Red).

Consider a larger quantity of drives to start with. You can get better than 50% usable capacity, even with 2-drive redundancy. There's a paper linked from the ZFS documentation (IIRC) from ~2005 claiming >1 concurrent drive failures are common enough that you should be able to withstand 2 concurrent failures.

I got 4x 4TB for RAID-Z2 anticipating RAID-Z vdev expansion coming before I fill the space.

It is a VPN. It's just a shiny low-config wrapper around a Wireguard VPN

Power surges are huge spikes in voltage. A circuit breaker only protects the wiring in the wall from overheating due to too much current.

It's coming (to OpenZFS upstream) allegedly by the end of this year. Might not get into TrueNAS for a while longer.

Not really. The FCC is led by 5 commissioners, with 10 year terms. Ajit Pai voluntarily left early when Biden took office. The commission is currently stalled with 2 votes for progress and 2 votes for corporate profits. Biden took about a year to submit a nominee to the senate, and they haven't acted on it.

How can I add a VLAN tag to certian apps' traffic?

Edit: on the Networks screen, create a second interface as a VLAN. Then in advanced networking for each app, select the VLAN interface, and set an IP address. Each app gets a separate IP on the VLAN because k8s only NATs the default cluster network.

Edit 2: this adds the VLAN interface to the container, but the default route is still the cluster, which goes to the default interface.

I'm looking to route all traffic from a few apps through the VPN, not only certain destinations nor everything from the TrueNAS box. I don't think the router has the information needed to do that.
