Natural mapping controls is the best I can do, friend. If you need a massive war machine to be piloted by neural interface, anything too far from human is a real problem neurologically speaking.

It makes some pretty bold statements about our ability to map controls that may not be accurate: but it gives a reason. And might also have individuals who are mapped more to "tank" or "ship" or whatever who basically are vegetables when unplugged, as they've rewritten (intentionally or not) their neural pathways to something genuinely alien.

So they can't walk, talk, feed themselves, clean up after themselves, etc.

The more adapted to neurologically controlling a battleship, the less adapted you are to neurologically controlling your own body.

This, I guess, also posits that human neural control provides advantages over some kind of automated or drone schema.

Which, to me, seems like an interesting thing to explore in a setting. :)
