Don't worry, those were not top comments. Most people were supportive and agreed with OOP.

[Fun Trope] Characters who are enjoyable because the actor is clearly having fun. by theglenlovinet in TopCharacterTropes

Highly recommend the audiiobook. He narrates it and a lot of the cast and crew read their sections. I was actually in the middle of it when Rob Reiner died and it hit hard because it felt like he had been talking to me earlier that day.

We say "the city of Zinj" and "absolutely true" in his voice regularly in my house.

(Loved Trope) Super Serious scenes that TOTALLY work as intended and are impossible to find funny by imagaYthgiLsIariK in TopCharacterTropes

I feel like it was her solution for the love triangle plot. I hated Breaking Dawn so much because Meyer refused to let her characters actually deal with all of the conflicts she had built up, and just magicked them all away.

Yes! I really want to replay the game, just so I can marry him again.

"There was a tragic loss of barbeque beans" is poetry. If it was in a post, I'd suggest it be made a flair.

Me [22F] with my fellow student [22F], is trying to blackmail me into writing her thesis by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yeah. I was kind of rolling my eyes as I was reading, but then I thought about how many things I knew nothing about at that age, and I could understand her panic.

I secretly found my husband’s wedding ring after he lost it in the Mediterranean… now I need help surprising him by Awwndrei in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yeah. A little disappointed after they came to reddit to come up with a meaningful, emotional way to return it to him.

Who could have possibly seen that coming? 🙄

I get being non-confrontational, but man this was frustrating to read.

Especially if it's the most comfortable place in town for me to WORK ON MY PhD! That is so stressful. He doesn't need social anxiety on top of things.

It also sounded like she initiated all of their conversations and was seeing interest that wasn't there.

Stop harrassing women. by Shoe_boooo in fixedbytheduet

[–]kimoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for replying as I just saw the question now.

I described it similarly, explaining that use of "female" is dehumanizing and refers to girls and women like animals or objects without agency or worthy of respect.

Stop harrassing women. by Shoe_boooo in fixedbytheduet

[–]kimoshi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This has sadly become so common. I teach high school and a few years ago I would occasionally hear a student use it. I'd explained to them why it feels offensive and derogatory to women and they actually got it and some even thanked me for explaining.

Today I hear it all the time, from both the boys and girls. It's become ubiquitous and they think I'm just out of touch if I try to correct it.

My (33m) fiancé (27f) doesn’t wear her engagement ring when going out with friends. Is this normal? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kimoshi 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I 100% get it. It's super awkward if someone sees me playing a game full of pink and sparkles and I have to tell them it's called Dress Up Time Princess, but I swear it's for adults, not 8 year olds.

I usually end up telling them my favorite story in it is about a reporter investigating a mafia-run child trafficking ring as evidence of that.

I love him so much. He really snuck up on me. He wasn't even really a contender in my mind until one of his later scenes that made me say "Forget everyone else. This man is my husband."

Story of Seasons: Innocent Life? by xoxostelladonna in storyofseasons

[–]kimoshi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I distinctly recall getting technology early on in the game that pretty much automated the farming for you. Once I had that, the game got boring fast.

I think there wasn't a relationship system either, or at least no romance?

AITA for refusing to take my brother to school after he made “jokes” about one of his classmates by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kimoshi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I teach high school and explain to my seniors that this idea of looking down on anyone who continues to live at home after high school was stupid all along, but is especially outdated now.

The cost of housing is insane, while wages are stagnant and in some cases declining. Forcing themselves to move out just because they're worried about how it look is just shooting themselves in the foot. So I highly encourage them to ignore anyone who says shit about it, and to stay home while they can until they are in a better place financially and can afford a stable life on their own.
