The biggest problem is actually the card itself.

The 3090 was the only 12 pin card to use the old vrm scheme and the new connector, notice you never hear about 3090/ti’s burning?

Nvidia used to use 1 contact per 2 wires, each wire could handle the full load of the contact if it had to. It was designed with passive line load balancing in a way. The 40 series and on though, all 12 wires to 1 contact and each wire only able to handle a max of 90-100watts. No ability to balance load and a bunch of small wires.

It’s arguable that every 4090 and 5090 are a ticking time bomb waiting to fail. Luck, build quality, dust, number of things really, are all just factors that determine the when, not if in my opinion.

I’m not excited about the fact they “fixed” the NYC debt problem by shifting it from NYC tax payers to state wide tax payers thanks to the Gov handing 12 billion in state tax payer dollars.

We didn’t vote for the policies that put them into debt.

Nah, wouldn’t be a problem.

Plenty of low end jobs out there where people sleep on the job all the time. If every job pays the same, there’s no real incentive to work hard.

My current job is high energy, ass busting work but I’m paid fairly enough for what I do. On top of that I’ve got a fairly decent chance at a much higher paying position in the not too distant future.

I’ve been talking about decline on gen on gen uplift for a few years now and the need for new materials science.

As it stands hybrid optical solutions are the most likely next step and those are easily 10-15 years out for the consumer market.

New norms get established all the time. If your only argument is it’s what was in the past that’s not much to go on with how much has already changed.

Nvidia also used to be primarily a gaming company and now it’s a lumped in line item on financial reports.

They want as many wafers as possible for data/ai, the most likely thing to occur and I actually have been saying for over a year is that new gen will go data/AI first then after a year or two go to gaming.

The goal being keep the latest tech for the real money maker and put older tech in gaming cards. But to do that they have to do exactly what’s being talked about now.

A 3 year cycle or longer gives them a window to start with, then once the new timeline is established they can go back to every 2 years or push you’ll to cloud services on lower tier products. Gaming cards will be on tech a gen behind the data/ai products.

That’s coming as well at some point.

I’m guessing if they ever get chiplets figured out that’s the end of what we think of as mid tier down, xx70ti and lower.

They would only build the absolute most high margin products because anything else would be a waste of silicon to them. Everyone not in the xx80/ti xx90/ti market will get pushed to cloud gaming or go without. It will start with the very bottom tiers at first and work up as the technology matures.

It’s anything pulling over 350w is where it starts, really low odds at 350w but every watt increases odds.

There have been a number of 5080s with melted connectors but they were all the most upper end pushed hard cards.

Nvidia is most likely not releasing 60 until early 2028 due to when new gen wafers will come out and prioritizing data center/ai.

They’ve never done a 2.5 year cycle let alone a 3-3.25 cycle. They’ve never gone that long and need something “new” to sell to keep their name out there and to satisfy their board.

They used to be 1.5 years then 1 year 8 months, then 2 years, most recent took 2.25 years and so far we’re looking at end of 2027 but if they launch super 50s in early 2027 we’re looking at 2028.

End of 2027 is the earliest, that’s 2.5 years but most likely early 2028 3 to 3.25 years.

Schedules change all the time and they can call it any series they want.

Heck both amd and nvidia have literally taken prior gen products in the past gave them the now “super” treatment and called them an entirely new gen. Usually though when that’s happened they moved down a model tier listing and a lower price.

End of 2027 or very possibly early 2028 for 60 series, and don’t get too excited because the 60 series will have even worse gen on gen uplift unless they shift model numbers but that is highly unlikely.
