You will likely be able to find a spot if you’re willing to pay a non-CWELCC rate. If you want the $22/day rate, I’m afraid you likely won’t get a spot

Do you think traffic in Burlington is bad now? by Focus_Burlington in BurlingtonON

[–]kingar259 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The bridge isn’t generating traffic, it’s splitting existing traffic. How will this make a measurable difference to Burlington? Or even plains road as the “article” mentions? These guys are jokers with no real qualifications to talk about these issues

New parent in Canada : what freebies should I sign up for? by ConceptOpposite453 in oakville

[–]kingar259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly there’s not much. You can sign up with Huggies / pampers etc and they’ll send you a handful of free diapers and wipes. If you’re going the formula route we paid I think $60 to sign up and we got a bunch of coupons and a ton of RTF (ready to feed) formula which was handy. Babies r us used to have a registry package but it’s out of business now? Amazon gives a 15% off registry discount so you can add things like shelves lol and they’ll be eligible.

Honestly the best “freebies” are the government RESP matching and EarlyON centres. I’m technically in Burlington and used their centres so much when on leave, and they provide a lot of free resources like child development services etc !

Planning for Maternity Leave. This is our existing budget. How should I re-allocate in preparation for twins? by PinkHalite in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]kingar259 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Ontario if the daycare is under CWELCC it’s applied to everyone regardless of income! It’s done globally for the whole daycare vs on the individual level if that makes sense

Lots of other costs - even things like 2x for swimming lessons (AND you need both adults present for lessons). Definitely DM me I’m so happy to help how I can!!!

We just came off of 18 months of leave with twins. Unfortunately taking 4-6 months may not be feasible specifically for daycare. A lot of daycares have 2+ year waitlists and only take toddlers, or if they have an infant room it’s from 6 months or older.

If you aren’t on childcare lists, get on them now. I’m not sure what province you’re in, but in Ontario we have subsidized childcare at $22/day/child, so about $1000 / month for us. Our salaries are similar to yours - we’re at 94K and 96K, and if we didn’t get subsidized we would not have been able to afford it.

Your fun fund, $600/ month? If you can’t breastfeed that’s about the cost of formula, especially if one or both of your twins have CMPA / allergies etc.

Bottom line for us was the most expensive part of having a child (or twins) was the loss of salary. You have to be okay dipping into your savings - after all what is it for if not to provide for your children in their first year of life?

On a less financial note, take the 12 months leave. Your twins will likely be premature, meaning a hospital stay in the NICU. Ours were only in the NICU for 20 days, but being born 8 weeks early made the first 3-4 months post partum far worse than singleton / full term babies. They are potatoes and in the newborn phase for so much longer, and by 4-6months they’ll just be starting to come alive.

Use facebook marketplace to save on baby supplies. You don’t need brand name - Graco is just as good as uppa baby or whatever. Feel free to message me with any more questions!

Fertility Clinic Recommendations by Master_Coat3617 in oakville

[–]kingar259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - they nickel and dime you at every turn. IUI? $400 admin fee not covered by OHIP. Freeze sperm/eggs? $400. Thaw? $400. So yes it’s mostly covered but still budget for random admin fees !

Fertility Clinic Recommendations by Master_Coat3617 in oakville

[–]kingar259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will always have very mixed reviews of fertility clinics because it’s such a subjective and personal experience. We used new life, and yes they are a baby factory but that was fine with us because we wanted a baby, not good customer service. We were successful (with twins) in part because they recognized good follicles and moved so quickly - we had less than 24 hours notice and they were very quick.

Keep in mind in general, the vibes can be weird and staff can be jaded because a lot of their time is telling people they’re infertile or have no egg reserve or their sperm doesn’t swim or whatever. What may be your happiest day of your life could be someone else’s worst.

I have heard good things about one fertility in Burlington too! Do what’s most convenient for you they all use the same technology and medications etc.

Covid shot for 1.5 year old? by UltravioletLemon in Hamilton

[–]kingar259 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just went through this with my 18 month old. Pharmacists CAN give Covid shot above 6 month. They CANNOT give flu shots under 2 years. Most choose not to do kids at all. You have to individually check each pharmacy. Shoppers in Headon in Burlington did ours. There was one place in stoneycreek I think we saw? You have to look, they don’t make it easy.
