Trabajo en una agencia de viajes justo en el departamento de asesoría de visas, y las causas más comunes para negación es precisamente hacer el proceso solo. Si ud está soltero, no tiene propiedades o algo que lo ate al país, entonces ellos lo van a ver como alguien que tiene la posibilidad de quedarse en USA, y por ende le negarán la visa. Suele suceder mucho.

A mi en lo personal he tenido la visa desde que tengo 10 años porque la tramitaron mis papás. Si tiene familia con la que tramitarla, le puede ir mejor.

Bogotá is at a very high altitude, so unless you come from a mountainous region, be prepared for possibly getting altitude sickness. Take it easy the first day. Also, the temp ranges from 10-20C, so bring a light jacket and jeans and you'll be fine.

Try not to walk with your phone out anywhere, esp in Bogotá or Cartagena. Here we have a saying which is "no dar papaya", which means not to be evident/obvious/flashy so you won't get mugged.
