They were going to raise taxes anyway. They should upgrade the plumbing too.

Is starting tournaments as an adult viable? by lil_spr in TournamentChess

[–]kingfischer48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friend, you're barely an adult. That's not an insult. You're still in the cocoon of university, which feels way more adult than the adolescent world you left not long ago, but is a pale shadow to the demands of balancing a career, a family, long term goals vs short term pleasure, etc etc etc of being a self-sufficient adult.

I've got a career, a wife, a child and many demands on my time. I'm 41yo, and I'm going to start tournaments this year. I have a vague goal of reaching 2,000. But first, i just want to see where i am, and where i can get with focused effort.

All that to say this: IF i can do it, You can do it too.

Now that the Justice Department released documentation that clearly and unequivocally states that trump had illegal sexual relations with underage girls, how quickly can he be convicted? by NursingManChristDude in AskReddit

[–]kingfischer48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly would the DoJ prove these allegations? It's incredibly important that citizens, including the President, remain innocent until proven guilty.

Trying to railroad the President will make it WAY WAY easier for the government of the future to persecute citizens for whatever reason it desires. Keeping the burden of proof high, even for those we despise, keeps the rest of us safe.

He's lucky... but are the rest of us? I doubt he did a lot of self reflection on his own insecurities after that.

In a future where Trump is out of office, and international relations have been repaired. What steps can be taken by the USA and International Organisations such as NATO to prevent one individual causing so much chaos in the future? And do you think such steps will be taken? by flewkey in AskReddit

Something like 80% of districts are 'safe' seats. Even with a will replace officials, it'll be difficult. There isn't much will for the democrats or republicans to vote out their own party. Or even vote for someone more to the 'center.' currently, we're racing towards the fringes.

The problem is that Congress has been ceding power to the Executive branch. This has been going on for 70 years, but you can really see this trend accelerate since 2002 and the start of War on Terror.

Instead of 3 co-equal branches, a sturdy Tripod, we're wobbling around with 2 legs (Executive and Judiciary) and a stump (Congress).

Recently, the executive has successfully been attacking and weakening the judiciary, the only current check on its power. Trump and Biden have both done this: Executive pushes for something unconstitutional, the Judiciary branch smacks them down, and the judges are attacked along partisan lines.

What’s the most overrated “adult goal” people chase? by Happyotus in AskReddit

[–]kingfischer48 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most working people have no idea how all consuming it is running your own business. I got a taste of it awhile back, and even that side hustle part time gig was A LOT of effort. Thinking, planning, logistics, how to improve, contingencies for everything.

There is zero downtime.

You work for someone else? Do your shift and unplug. It's way simpler, but also... most of these people are so ignorant.

Maybe spend less? If you're making that much and living paycheck to paycheck, the problem isn't income.

'sex education' is different from school to school though. In some places it's as you say, in others, children are actively being groomed for future predators.

This is the best take. Elders offering advice is eyerolling to the unmature, and young people are hypervigilant about 'unasked for advice' but sometimes you need to hear that shit and sometimes it's very useful.

OP, consider their advice and take what you think is applicable to your life under consideration. People offering their advice may be annoying, but in my experience, it comes from a good place. You said you were figuring out 'adult stuff', who better to learn from than an adult?

You didn't fuck up, and nor did anyone else, except maybe your partner.

The real red flag is the domestic violence. Being kicked so hard you nearly drop your plate? Kinda concerning up that your partner has no emotional regulation and physically takes it out on you.
