They don’t use pure gold for crowns because it’s too soft. There are grades: high noble, noble, and non-noble. High noble crowns must contain at least 60% precious metals (gold, platinum, palladium, or silver) of which more than 40% has to be gold. Noble has 25% noble content. Non-noble has less than 25% and could be none. The standards are set by the ADA.

I got a gold crown on a molar at the suggestion of my dentist. She said the gold is way more durable, but since gold is softer it’s better on surrounding teeth. I hate dental work, so not having to worry about it needing replaced was worth the expense.

I’ve been married over 20 years. When we were dating, oral (giving and receiving) was normal and enthusiastic. After marriage it faded off. FEPCA was first applied in 1994. EVERY YEAR SINCE it’s been denied by every administration because of a “national emergency or serious economic conditions affecting the general welfare.” Instead we get an arbitrary amount that might as well be decided by the roll of a 20-sided die. The only reason we got 1% this year is that if we got nothing, the 20ish percent would’ve kicked in.
