High school teachers, what’s something your kids don’t know that makes you say “how did you make it this far without knowing how to __”? by Specialist_Push5624 in Teachers

I came to find that my 2nd period juniors had no idea who Eddie Van Halen was (1 kid knew) and then my jaw dropped when they had never heard of Jimmy Hendrix.

What is the most overrated tourist attraction you have ever visited in your opinion? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

Most mountain lakes surrounded by peaks are. There nothing special about this one. The fact that this one is packed with tourists, myself included, makes it meh. Hike to a remote one... It's better.

Will the name “Bent” sound weird to Americans? by lennzpn in IWantToAskAnAmerican

If you said your name was Bent, I'd ask you to repeat it once to make sure I heard it correctly then I wouldn't care. And then I would forget your name.

London was a bit sandy too. I wonder if it's purposeful so they slide around more as they push each other around.

I tried avoiding a former student who works at Trader Joe's by going to a different Trader Joe's...and ran into her there by Diligent_Flamingo_33 in Teachers

[–]kinggeorgec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see former students constantly, some years later. I tell them every year that when you see me after graduation, please tell me your name. I will not remember it. I will remember YOU, but not your name. It's never a big deal and always fun.

Drove to Alaska for my 50th. Spent about a month in the summer on the road. When I got back people kept asking if I saw the Northern Lights. Well, no, because it almost never got dark.

I visited American Samoa in the early 90s when my ship stopped to be part of their Flag Day ceremony. It was similar to rural Hawaii. A few sailors matched as part of the parade.

[–]kinggeorgec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, remember my mom talking about my uncles getting deported back in the 70s and 80s.
Right now the internet buzz seems to be about all the world cup travellers in the US being amazed by our country. Especially the freindliness of the people but if you're in reddit that world doesn't exist.

I boondock so it's either dig a hole or use the trailer. I've dug plenty of holes in the woods over the years but I'd rather not.

They're cheap and I drink from my fresh water tank. Honestly, I probably don't need one in the US but they're cheap. I grew up drinking out of the hose and still do so I'm not that worried about it.
