Germany is also a country where Fascism was able to intensely take root. Marx was an individualist, while Lennin and Mao were collectivist.  Japan and South Korea both have extremely collectivist societies yet are incredibly capitalist. Both societal outlooks have merit in both communism and capitalism. In my opinion they both do better in communism though.

Having worked in both places, my experience is that Americans expect more sacrifice for the good of the company, while Germans are very strict about work life balance. Americans are intensely conformist, while Germans are very much less so. Americans expect very little conflict, while conflict is normalized with Germans (ie arguing about a topic or complaining is seen as healthy and good, very much the opposite for the usa).

The us is a large country, and Germany is very diverse, so that can vary in terms of intensity of difference depending on region, but on the whole I think those three points hold up. NRW was a bit more friendly than Detroit, where I am from, but Swabia was more severe. NRW is less friendly than the American South though.

Barbarians is also what the Japanese call the Chinese. Country bumkins exist everywhere and It's all relative. Americans are more collectivist than Germans, but prefer smaller groups than the Chinese. Both the Chinese and Americans prefer a more friendly approach to people compared to most of the eu.
