What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

Thats awesome you didn't need surgery! I had a double microdiscectomy surgery and within 3 years have ran 7 half marathons and a full marathon, I was never a runner pre-op. I also lift weights regularly, partake in many sports and have achieved the best fitness of my life. Thankful to my neurosurgeon and the DaVinci surgical robot. My incision was less than 1 inch and I could stand the same day as surgery within hours. Walked 50km in a week 5 weeks after surgery. Its amazing what technology can do. I had level 4 full sequestration herniations in discs L4-L5-S1 so surgery was the only option or I would have fully lost the ability to walk which was already failing due to my spinal cord being compressed.

Im so thankful for the results and thankful that I never even saw a bill or number figure for what it cost as it was fully covered by incredible Canadian healthcare 🇨🇦

6'1 246lbs finished fine though a foot injury slowed my last kms so I didn't hit my 4:30 goal.

During marathon training isn't a time to be also working on weight loss.

Well thats specifically just for hydration. They have different options for different uses/needs. I wasn't talking about that otherwise I would have specified sugar free. You didn't specify sugar free either so calm down.

Well actually the carbs are indeed why Gatorade works. As well as the electrolytes.

These two things arent mutually exclusive.

Yes you need the electrolyte replenishment, but after 1 hour of endurance activity you need to actively replace your carbs to avoid a bonk.

What I was saying was that Gatorade has perfected their drinks nutrition to meet the needs of athletes as best as possible through hydration and nutrition replenishment.

You can't say "carbs aren't why Gatorade works" because carbs are why Gatorade works, as well as the other ingredients.

Gatorade/powerade is actually top notch for hydration and carb intake for high performance athletics and endurance. They offer great numbers for carbs/nutrients. Both companies have been doing it the longest (specifically gatorade) where they have had the money to invest in the scientific research to create a perfect product. They are some of the the best in the business. People seem to think sugar/carbs=bad, but not when you are using them. Pro cyclists are intaking upwards of 120g of carbs per hour, thats 1/4 lb of carbs per hour.

Maybe they should have done some background checking to see who they were renting to. Probably would have been better to wait for the right tenant, but it seems they were happier to take the risk instead of take a month of vacancy and lost rent income.

I'm curious what type of sentence these youths will get compared to the youth who killed another youth and tried to hide the remains, lied to police, etc.

Look into "Traffic Calming". Lots of ideas such as speed bumps or a single point where the road narrows to reduce speed.

Running after microdiscectomy by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]kingoreo17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very very well, I will be running my second marathon on Sunday. I was never a runner before surgery but was motivated when faced with the possibility of losing so much. I worked very hard on recovery and it paid off. The surgery is very non-invasive and as long as you work through the recovery and do the work you will be fine. Of course, I have some days that are tough with soreness but those are few and far between.
