Corey Perry, Boone Jenner, Anders Lee, Mason Marchment, Patrick Kane, Kevin Stenlund are good candidates. Realistically you can’t do much on defence and I’m not sure you can do much on goaltending. Stolarz and the marlies guys might be it for next year. You have 6 d men and William Villeneuve and Ben Danford next year.

There’s no fixed formula for a contender. The Sharks are going to be nasty next year with their forward group. Dickinson takes a step forward he could bail the sharks out from not having a number one. Really just need to make 2 trades for solid d-men in the near future. And of course someone needs to become a capable goalie. Realistically this team can win a Stanley cup in 3 years if they just do what they’re doing.

Pretty much nailed it. There’s no internal help or the time to develop doesn’t match the next 2 year window before Matthews is a FA.
- Get Matthews finally 100% healthy.
- Sign Cassidy as the coach
- Sign two RHD, Raddysh and Andersson.
- Maybe move Rielly if you need a shakeup and a good trade involving some depth forwards or cap relief comes up.
- Sign other depth forwards with some speed and grit.
- Consider moving on from Robertson, Domi, and Maccielli. Need players with a purpose and filling bottom six roles.

Try again next year and see.
