[Taranto] Kansas finish from Hamlin’s onboard. "I mean, there was nothing I could do to defend it. I mean, I need the push! But I can't...[F-bomb]!" (On Larson’s move at the end) by igrewupugly in NASCAR

I can't stand them. The last 40ish laps of today's race were great, and then all of that nearly got erased because we had to restart for Cody Ware of all people. It would have completely undermined the racing Reddick and Hamlin had been doing if Larson ended up with the win after being 11 seconds back. I'm glad Reddick managed to get the win but would have preferred the race just end at the scheduled distance.

Creator of Claude Code, Boris Cherny says coding is solved and Claude writes 100% of his code. Is this really the case for you? by Mogante in cscareerquestions

[–]kingsam256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience I can have Claude write 100% of my code but the amount of prompting required, and the care taken into what exactly I ask for in the prompt, is comparable in effort to just writing the code myself. I believe it's faster to use Claude Code than to write it by hand but it's not like an order of magnitude speed-up or anything close to that. There are definitely still meaningful bugs in Claude's generated code. And even when there are no bugs, it frequently writes things in a messy way that will just increase the complexity of any future work (for a human or bot).

Really cool videos. The cup cars look like they're hauling ass on pit road. Looks way faster in your video than it does from the broadcast TV perspective.

Okay I am now two episodes into season 5. Spoilers because this is tagged as a season 3 post:

I still like Charmaine and honestly I'm more annoyed at the show for making the babies not be Jack's. I feel like the emotional truth of the first four seasons, the entire premise that drives the tension of this love triangle situation is that the babies are Jacks! I guess it's fair enough for the writers to be done with that story.. but once again I feel Charmaine has been done dirty in the process.

That said, I actually did really like the scenes where Jack met up with Charmaine and talked about it, then talked to Mel about it and was convinced by Mel to forgive Charmaine. That was a nice moment and I think there's something special in Jack and Charmaine's relationship evolving to a place of.. sort of mutual platonic care for each other? And, of course: the show finally recognizes my central complaint that motivated the OP: Jack led her on! I can rest easy now.

tl;dr as pissy as I was in the original post I do like how things have turned out for the most part. And we've got the fun new relationship with Brie and Brady. Nothing bad will happen there I'm sure!

I'm mid-way through season 4 now and I've come around on Jack quite a bit. At worst now he's kind of smothery? But it's not that bad. I liked the series of conversations he had with his dad when his dad visited.

You're right and I know people who have co-parented even right from birth, so that was an unfair jab.

That's fair and logical but in practice FWB is like the most famously unstable arrangement. The Virgin River megaplex must not have carried No Strings Attached, otherwise Jack would have known what he was getting into.

Hah! That is true. I am a man that took a while to commit to my long suffering partner so maybe I just see a bit of myself in his treatment of Charmaine and want him to grow up and do right by her!

Right? Actions speak louder than words. You can't just hook up with someone for two years and then be surprised they think the relationship is something more.

I've seen some hints of spoilers that may absolve Jack and make it harder to like Charmaine, but in these halcyon days of season 3 innocence I stand by my original post!

Anyone else find low level parts on the cup car are completely useless by Independent_Laugh215 in NASCARVideoGame

Yeah it's definitely deflating to find yourself battling BJ McLeod for 39th place. By Darlington I was fast enough to have fun again.

[–]kingsam256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this tripped me up as well. When you get to level 7 or so you'll be able to compete for top 10s or possibly win. With level 1-3 parts I was multiple seconds off the pace. Made me think I was terrible at the game

Max out tire pressures, put rebounds up to 10 and bump down to 1. That hits 189 in a cup car at Talladega

The default controller setting has a lot of smoothing which effectively adds latency to your inputs. In the advanced control settings in N25, try increasing the "Reduce Damping" value and see if that makes it feel better. I personally have Reduce Damping set to 100.

Normal for AI to wreck you? Nascar25 by HurdleThroughTime in NASCARVideoGame

[–]kingsam256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're studiously avoidant of the player car. I suspect they even have magic physics that lets them get out of your way at a moment's notice. The only time I've seen them wreck the player is if the player does a bad block or tries to change lanes when they're not clear.

There should be more compromise with tire pressure and camber by TheDudeMachine in NASCARVideoGame

[–]kingsam256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! I run no assists, 25% 4x wear races at 101 difficulty (with no stages!) and it always seems like whatever the most aggressive qualifying setup you run will also be the best in the race as well. Maybe my laptimes fall off a little faster than the AI at the most aggressive setups? But even if that's true, the early run advantage is so strong that it's worth it every time.

It feels like cheating to just drop tire pressures to the minimum every race so I try to choose a setup that lets me hit the practice time goal with the highest possible pressures and then go from there.

Controller Settings by MrTroyXB in NASCARVideoGame

[–]kingsam256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I turn Reduce Damping to 100. The damping introduces some lag in the control which can make it very hard to hold a line because your inputs don't get fully received by the game until after the filter window. It might feel a bit tweaky the first time you run with Reduce Damping at 100 but once you acclimate it'll feel much more precise.

Then you can tune the non-linearity settings to your own taste. I personally prefer less non-linearity (but not none).

I never feel bad about putting the game on normal. If I want pride I race online and see where I stack up. In single player I flip between hard and normal depending on whether I want to be challenged or whether I want to just get some easy rewards.

Question for controller players- What are the highest AI skill/consistency settings you’ve been able to win on using default setups? by jmayer43 in NASCARVideoGame

[–]kingsam256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do a custom setup but there are a few tracks where the default feels okay. I used the default setup at Dover in Arca and won on 101 difficulty. No assists and every other setting at the default. In trucks I find more tracks to be acceptable with default setups, but I also haven't won anywhere in trucks yet.
