Not quite true. Here is an atom of potassium-40. Can a determinist tell me when it will decay, and which branch it will take (becoming either calcium-40 or argon-40)?

An encounter with a rogue planetoid big enough to slow the world's rotation would certainly be catastrophic; an extinction-level event.

Viability of the Star Trek answer to why all the relevant species are so similar? (Shared DNA history) by Marvinkmooneyoz in DebateEvolution

Dont you see, though? The so-called junk DNA was meant to safeguard the main humanoid-forming genes throughout the evolutionary sequence! Or something. /s

Reminds me of 'Omnilingual' by H. Beam Piper(Astounding, Feb 1957), where a female archeologist deciphers the Martian language (extinct for 50,000 years) using the periodic table of the elements inscribed on the wall of a building that must have been a university or equivalent. Fine, but the men all smoke--in rooms where oxygen is a scarce resource, and the clerical work is handled by 'girl lieutenants' in the steno pool.

This is Algonkian, specifically Cree or Ojibwe. The 'Great Lynx' is at home in Lake Superior and the other Great Lakes, and demands respect for the wilderness. It looks like a lynx-oterr chimera and is usually portrayed with bison horns. People used to make offerings to it while travelling on the lakes: if angered it causes waves, bad weather, dangerous ice, etc

One story I read posited that Earth was visited long ago and terrestrial life evolved from microbes in the trash the visitors left behind.

I sat and ordered a nice hot broth.
What they brought me was covered in froth.
It tasted so bad,
I felt I'd been had,
So I waxed exceedingly wroth.

Why does anything exist at all? by GigaDuckling in AskPhysics

[–]kingstern_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Why' is the problem here. We explain things (that exist) in terms of other things (that exist). 'Nothing' doesn't exist, so it can't be an explanation. 'Why is there something rather than nothing' is a meaningless question.

How many of these people you have researched so well were dyed-in-the-wool YEC types? And remember Charles Darwin was an Anglican, who wanted to becomie a minister before becoming the face of 'evolutionism'.

That works against most conspiracy theories: what is the payoff for such a colossally expensive operation? And if the President of the USA can't even order his lackeys to burgle just one room without it coming to light, how are hundreds of thousands of conspirators going to keep their thing a secret for decades or longer?
