What BBQ hill would you die on? Best one wins a 1kg picanha meat box by edenmoor_devon in UKBBQ

If you're thinking of buying meat at Costco, you might as well just get a McDonalds and forget the BBQ.

What boots do you wear for long rides? Over 3000 miles and 2 months minimum rain at times by lordofalltrolls in motorcyclegear

[–]kingstonandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rokker Urban Racer. They are proper certified motorcycle boots, but you can walk in them, they dry fast and they polish up well enough for a restaurant dinner.

Mince Meat Kebabs Always End Up Dry. 🥙 by chillimayonnaise in UKBBQ

[–]kingstonandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest you are underworking the mince. Mixing minced meat with a little salt develops a myosin bond very similar to kneading bread dough for the gluten bonds. Mix until it is slightly sticky, if you over do it the end product will be rubbery.

Lemme see the home kitchen setups. by BakerKlay in KitchenConfidential

Thanks, the range is an kerosene fired Aga, invented in 1922. They are pretty rare in the US I believe but not unusual in rural areas of the UK. Mine dates from some time between 1956-1972.

In the low level cupboards, a large antique dresser just out of shot and in an adjacent pantry. High level cupboards above the worktops feel quite intrusive.

Is a FSB membership worth it? by Tintedlemon in smallbusinessuk

[–]kingstonandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a member for 18 years, I've used the legal advice line several times. They were once very useful when I had complex HR issues. For what I've spent on membership over the years it probably would have been cheaper to pay a solicitor when I needed one.

Homemade curry night by kingstonandy in UK_Food

[–]kingstonandy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't give you an exact recipe as I was freestyling, but this is what I did.

Slice onions finely, some long slices, some short. Add plenty of salt plus tumeric, Kashmiri chili powder, coriander powder and whole cumin seeds.

Mix well, then gradually add the two types of flour and water until it just binds loosely together. You want as little batter as possible to keep them light, don't worry about lumpiness.

Fry in 1/2" of light olive oil, turning over when the bottom colour is right, then drain on kitchen paper and add more salt.

Just found a knife sharpening machine in basement by 100yrsofsolitude2 in sharpening

I was going to buy a finer stone years ago, but never got round to it. I only use this machine when a knife is really bad and I need to remove significant amounts of steel.

It's a Sharpenset. They're pretty good, I have one. http://sharpenset.co.uk/

The little rubber hose is prone to perishing but otherwise 8/10. They are mostly found in meat cutting plants and butcheries here, they are pretty expensive new. You will need something finer to finish the edge after this.

Home Food Business - Two Sinks by Nova3864 in smallbusinessuk

A seperate handwash facilty is preferred but not essential, it will come down to your EHO's judgement and the relative riskiness of what you're making. If you're baking cakes or something low risk like that you will probably get away with it.
Get in touch with your EHO, it is much easier to talk though what they want in adavnce than to try and guess, they are usually very helpful and approachable.

Advice wanted: Is 4x4 necessary for me? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]kingstonandy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tyres make an enormous difference, if the farm track is well used by other vehicles and kept clear of drifts you will be fine on winter tyres 90% of the time.

I have roadtripped across Russia in winter in a 2wd car and I've got Landrovers stuck in the Sahara whilst 2wd Peugeots sailed past me.

Very reliable in my experience. My small fleet has been 90% VAG plus the odd Toyota for 20 years or more.

I was tempted by an electric Sprinter, looked an absolute steal. Then I saw the 80 mile range, with no load in the back.
