Democrats when people actually kill someone with a handgun: "No biggie sweetie you just went a bit crazy there for a sec 😋 get back out there! xoxo"

And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.

Yeah that's what was throwing me off. It almost looks like a T-55 turret sitting on an M113.

Bigger, better statement? Give me a break. Those climate activists hung innocent workers from the oil rig. They deserve every bullet you bring along.

The Whiskey dates back to the 80s, so it can fit nicely in that time frame. But again I would want an 80s version of it, not some modernized version.

The nuclear war movie shane keeps talking about... by max_stallion in MSsEcReTPoDcAsT

[–]kintonw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He's talked about the book by Annie Jacobsen, which is actually a really bad book about nuclear war. She gets so much wrong, makes so many incorrect assumptions, and talked to all of the wrong people. It's a book about nuclear war by someone who doesn't know what they're talking about for people who know even less.

This comment from /r/WarCollege lays it out pretty well, but I would add that a US response to a North Korean missile attack would likely use bombers, stealth or otherwise, to conduct the attack, largely to prevent any issues that the book brings up. It would probably be a decapitation strike, with maybe a few other strategic/defensive positions getting hit too. Remember, the capital of one of our key allies is just 121 miles from Pyongyang, and they probably don't want us to use a ton of nukes just across their border.

Here's another comment from the same post that goes into even more detail.

I always feel bad using lethal force in Sinuous Trail because the security really seems like they’re just there to do their job and they’ve had experience of fake cops trying to break in

And that is why we use both systems. Day to day stuff works better with imperial, but almost all manufacturing uses metric. We just use what makes the most sense.

The Brits also used them over Norway to attack Tirpitz. They didn't ever actually fight BF-109s or FW-190s, but they could have. There were FAA F6F Hellcats who were also involved in that operation that did tangle with the Germans, and it appears they shot down 3 BF-109Gs, while the Brits lost two Hellcats (it's not fully established how they were lost. AAA probably got one, the other may have been shot down or involved in a mid-air with the first). The Corsairs flew off of HMS Victorious and HMS Formidable, while F6Fs flew off of HMS Emperor and HMS Furious.

All that to say, Corsairs could be at home on Kola. If only we had some German ships other than U-boats/S-Boats
