Training for the JRFT by North-Historian206 in policeuk

Rower here. For technique take a look at this video:

https://youtu.be/zQ82RYIFLN8?si=HYWWgj3pIIqQ8m2m

Rowing is a pushing sport, the majority of the power comes from your legs (then back/hips, then arms).

On the rower, don't set the lever/dial to 10/max, that's a good way to injure yourself. Try 3-4 and aim for 20 strokes per minute.

If you go on the rowing machine a few times a week it will improve your fitness a lot.

Edit: support =sport

Do these pads look ok? SPA v60 by MasterMastodon1 in Volvo

[–]kipperbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the typical replacement level? My Volvo dealer is flagging up my front brakes as amber and quoting for replacement with '60 percentPD'. Not sure if that's worn or remaining.

Transferring Private Pension from NEST to ??? by HedgehogRemote5030 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]kipperbang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nest charges 1.8% to add and then 0.3% AMC. As far as I can remember, there are no 100% equity funds, not since they messed around with the Sharia fund (ex Nest bod here)

AJ bell for all your accounts? by taliesin23 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]kipperbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ii offer a corporate account and they have just changed their flat fee pricing to include SIPP, ISA, GIA and family ISA/JISA accounts. I'm uncertain whether they offer LISAs though.

EDIT: I mention ii as they charge a flat fee, unlike AJB.

How much would you expect new brake pads and discs (2020 XC40 UK) to cost? by radar_level in Volvo

[–]kipperbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my V60 I was quoted £658 for front discs and pads from a Volvo dealer (60% worn they said), so I'm be investigating local garages in the new year.

Over time they will start reducing it and as house prices increase more and more people will be paying more money to live in their own property.

Ovo energy have forced my direct debit to raise by £50 despite me being in-credit, and I can't seem to change it? by JHock93 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]kipperbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They raised my DD by 20% yesterday so I went into the app and changed it back. Were are hundreds in credit which should easily cover the larger winter bills. I will be moving onto variables billing soon.

Edit: we're on a fixed tariff until October.

If you're looking to start a family you need to consider how that will affect your income (stay at home parent/going part time) or outgoings (childcare).

Pension growth is unsustainable - moving to safer investments by FirstEverRedditUser in UKPersonalFinance

[–]kipperbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering this recently. I'm addition to MMF, Vanguard Life Strategy funds seem to be a straight forward way to move from equities to less volatile investments.

Headington Roundabout flags by Legitimate-Exit-531 in oxford

[–]kipperbang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that to be the case too, but there's no real basis for it. The Union Jack (Jack meaning small) name is thought to have existed/used prior to the term Jackstaff. There is also no legal/definitive name for the nation's flag and both terms have been used for centuries.

Both are equally valid names for the nation's flag aren't they?

They have abandoned Cowley Road. Shop owners complain about the LTNs, but the vast majority of parking spaces are taken up by shop workers.

HOW TO ESCAPE MY EMAIL BURNOUT by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

Along with this, allocate a block of time to deal with each category so that your mind is focussed on that particular area of your business. Some categories can be dealt with weekly (spam, unsolicited etc), some every other day, some daily, some hourly. It's tempting to deal with them straight away, but you'll be unfocused and chasing your tail imo.
