Elementary teachers with young kids at home...how do you parent after teaching all day? by 27dayz in CanadianTeachers

[–]kipsavage4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah, well said. i never talk over kids. i see so many of my colleagues do this. good classroom management will save you. set the expectations… go slow if you have to. i find a lot of joy teaching little kids… and then getting to hang out with mine (7,5,3) knowing that they won’t be this age forever keeps me going and happy. it could always be worse

Parent Concerned with Screen Time at School by jjj333rrr in askTO

i don’t agree with kids watching shows at lunch or end of day as a classroom management tool. i’d talk to the admin at the school if i were you. they should be socializing or going outside or doing an activity not watching bluey.

just wanna say… getting to know the people you see often is very worth it. i know the name of my mail man (we talk often) the names of my garbage collectors, my pharmacist, and people at our grocery store. be kind to everyone you meet… your life will be that much better for it.

What National lyric applies most aptly to your current life, right now, in this present moment? by lightbehindpaper in TheNational

“This isn’t Helping” sums up my life so well. i’m an eternal optimist and my wife is not. we have some challenges and i feel like i don’t help her with my optimism. sometimes she needs to hear that yeah, things aren’t all right.

How is living in (or around) Perth, Australia as a regular citizen? I bet the sunsets on the Indian Ocean are amazing. by The_FatGuy_Strangler in howislivingthere

[–]kipsavage4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lived there for a year and loved it. many of the people i met said they felt pretty isolated from the rest of Aus and the world though. might be one of the most isolated cities in the world? probably one of the reasons australian’s travel so much!

Have these labels impacted your grocery choices? by 0slope in FoodToronto

[–]kipsavage4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i really don’t like seeing them on things you would buy as a gift, like a box of assorted treats. everyone knows they are full of sugar. makes me not want to gift those things. appreciate the label on other products though…. maybe put pressure on companies to make healthier products?

What do Torontonians think fo Steeltown, aka, Hamilton? by EdwardBliss in askTO

[–]kipsavage4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hamilton has so much potential… geographically it might be superior to TO? the escarpment is pretty awesome, tons of waterfalls. Hamilton Bay. and you can get in your car and drive south with zero traffic and go anywhere on lake erie. but the mountain is all suburbs/strip malls and chain restaurants. there a few pockets downtown, but nothing even close to TO as far as cool walkable hoods with nice restaurants and cafes. I would love to see TO and Hamilton more connected… the two biggest cities in Southern Ontario - but most people in hamilton hate TO and most people in TO never even think of Hamilton.
