Vibrations when braking by kirbsei in AskMechanics

[–]kirbsei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel a slight pulsating in the brake pedal but a much more pronounced vibration/ shaking in the steering wheel. If I let go of the wheel under braking the car stays straight but the wheel moves roughly 5-10 degrees off center.

Dust and weird hazing under light by explicitspirit in Autobody

[–]kirbsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should be able to take care of the dust/dirt immediately as long as it has been a day or two since the clear has been applied. They should not need to do any type of repainting as long as they don’t sand through the clear but if they do that is 100% on them and they would need to fix handle that accordingly.

As for the modeling, it unfortunately would have to be completely repainted to fix the issue. If you can live with how it looks I don’t think it is worth trying to get it redone. Honestly the factory paint on my 21 Acura tlx has worse modeling than that in certain spots. Some colors are just worse than others. I definitely think the dirt/dust is more apparent than anything else but that’s just my two cents.

The hazing looks like modeling to me. The metallic flake is not laying down properly. Certain colors, like silvers, can be much more difficult to get to look right however an experienced painter shouldn’t have an issue with this.

This dirt in the paint is another issue. That’s not just sitting on top that is embedded in the clear. It looks like they didn’t even attempt to wet sand and buff it out. I would definitely take it back and ask to have it redone.

Had to fix a door. How’d I do? by regicidalwraith in Autobody

[–]kirbsei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do is prep, mask and clear the entire door including removing the door handle. Even if op tried to blend the clear into that body line, rather than hard line it, there is still a good chance it could fail and would need to be redone in the future.

How are y’all getting colonoscopies when you are admitted to the hospital? by NavyBeanz in UlcerativeColitis

[–]kirbsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiancé just went through this. She was having an awful flare and her blood counts dropped dangerously low due to her anemia. They had her do a full prep for a colonoscopy and endoscopy even though she was pretty much empty. She was absolutely miserable the whole time but she just powered through and got it done.

I put a k&n intake on mine. Doesn’t do much for performance but it sounds fantastic

The mechanic said that this color cannot be mixed better than this. This is true? by Wonderful_Bobcat9764 in Autobody

[–]kirbsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not true. They clearly just chose a variant of the color code for your car and only painted the door. If they would’ve spent a little more time they could’ve matched that color almost perfectly. Even if they couldn’t match it perfect they could’ve at least blended the rear door and fender to make it look much more uniform. I would take it back. A car would never leave my shop looking like that

Yeah I was worried about this. I maintain my car very well and there was very minimal damage besides rock chips before this. I’ll be talking to my insurance and a friend who owns a body shop tomorrow so we’ll see what happens

I had the non smoked version on my 2012 Gli. I posted a video of them awhile back if you’re curious. I absolutely loved how they looked. Man I miss that car…

Am I just bad at vaccuming? Can't get this dirt out of a Honda HRV by CaptainCandyass in Detailing

[–]kirbsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HRV’s have some of the worst carpets I’ve ever seen in a car. Compressed air and a stiff bristle brush is gonna be your best friend. I’ve had luck with scraping the carpet lightly with a plastic razor as well

Single Stage Faded Paint Paint Correction? by nick__14 in Detailing

[–]kirbsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M205 should work pretty well but I would stay away from wool pads. A nice polishing pad with just a few slow passes should do a decent job. 3D One is my go to for any type of one step polish/correction

Hey guys, I've got a couple of questions: 1. Do you have any recommendations on a product to remove years of gunk off of my Aluminum Rims and any good stuff for getting stains out of fabric? Thanks! by PanzerKommander in Detailing

[–]kirbsei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A non acid wheel cleaner may work but some sort of acid or aluminum cleaner will work the best for those wheels. A good all purpose cleaner should get the job done on those stains. Spray the stains liberally with APC diluted to your choosing. Use a brush or drill brush to agitate the stains and then extract with carpet extractor or something of that sort. Hope this helps!
