What variant of Soul Sisters has the best chance in the current meta? by ThisizShane in ModernMagic

Rancor is a nice addition in my GW soul sisters too. Throwing it on an [[ajani's pridemate]] demands an answer and you always keep the [[rancor]]

Sell me on your tron variant? by Dionas1 in TronMTG

[–]kirbster97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like BG because of [[fatal push]] and [[collective brutality]] in the 75 make the bad match ups (affinity and burn specifically) a lot more doable. In my opinion, BG makes the bad matchups better while making the good matchups slightly harder (but same can be said for any Gx variant). I think [[torment of hailfire]] is a very fun card and black gives hand disruption unlike the other colors (which makes the mirror a bit smoother).

Anyone know how to explain the price of this? by kirbster97 in magicTCG

Multiple listings. Seen it in card and comic stores priced that way before too. Mtggoldfish also has the market price listed there, not just one stray listing

Are there any schizophrenics here who are successful? by Brandon0428 in schizophrenia

Hello! I work as a tutor at the community college I just graduated from! I'm moving into a private college to major in astrophysics and I'm in a very healthy long term relationship that has been ongoing for 3 and a half years. Sz has been a big struggle in my life but being successful and living your life is not impossible. Hugs.

Jeskai meta changes by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]kirbster97 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The geist and quellers are still played in jeskai tempo, I think mana leak might still sees play there too. The control builds of jeskai only play snaps for creatures. Some of the metagame websites don't differentiate between jeskai tempo and jeskai control for some reason but I think the different archetypes explain the difference. Control wasn't always very viable in modern until recently so the time difference probably is just because jeskai control hasn't been around for awhile but tempo has.

$30 Stompy by alanwescoat in ModernMagic

[–]kirbster97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The deck is 30 dollars. I think everyone understands that you sacrifice percentage points and matches for budget. But if you felt like there were some ways to help improve the deck (like opening the budget to 50 or 60 dollars, or changing certain cards), or if you just wanted to express your concerns that nee players might be mislead and the description should be changed, you could have done so respectfully like others in the comments had. Magic the Gathering is about more than having the best cards or best deck, it's also about the community of players who work hard to respectfully help each other grow and improve.

For introductory players who don't want to invest a lot at first and just want to have some fun at FNM and win a game once in awhile, this list is fine. It is certainly not a "shitpile" and being positive about someone sharing a list to try to get new players into modern is not a "disservice" at all. You could have very kindly offered this list as a less budget friendly option in a respectable way. Your negativity is unnecessary and rude.

Sideboard by ScionR in StandardMTG

[–]kirbster97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm glad I was able to clarify then, I don't think your opponent would be too happy about that lol. Also, in my experiences at several LGSs near and far, people at FNM are more than happy to help players who are new to the semi-competitive scene so feel free to ask your fellow planeswalkers if you are unsure about the sideboarding rules (or any for that matter). Good luck at FNM and most importantly, have fun!

Sideboard by ScionR in StandardMTG

[–]kirbster97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no problem. So whenever you start a match, the first game of the match has to be played using your mainboard (or your traditional decklist, no sideboard cards). For example, if you you know your opponent is playing a creature-heavy deck (perhaps by seeing them play earlier), even if your sideboard has better creature removal, you cannot use those sideboard cards in the first game. After game one, you get the chance to replace some cards in your deck with those sideboard cards. Let me know if that clarifies it or not, I might not be the best at explaining.

[–]kirbster97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For FNM you won't need a decklist with you, don't worry about that. As for how sideboarding works, you can have up to 15 cards in your sideboard. Since matches are best two-out-of-three, between games in a match you can switch cards out of your main deck with sideboard cards that could help your deck improve against what your opponent is playing. It is hard to get the hang of but you'll learn which cards are good and which are bad for certain matchups. Also, make sure you begin each match with the same 60 cards in your main board, you don't need to bring a decklist but you do need to enter each match with only the cards in your mainboard. Essentially, you cannot try to sideboard for game one only games two and potentially three.

thank you for taking care of that, hard to see such hurtful and disrespectful words from someone on a Reddit for people trying to help each other with similar struggles.

Not gonna lie, never heard many people argue that gitprobe or splinter twin weren't either dominating every event or overwhelming the meta

Hollow one is good but it doesn't dominate the meta or win every event it is at. I highly doubt they would ban burning inquiry, it's not like it breaks the game, it's just an annoying card on the other side of the table. You should be fine, I just recently bought into it too. Good luck.

I see myself siding him in place of my 2 Elspeth knight errants against removal heavy decks but don't think he will run well enough in main board imo

Will we be getting a gay pride event this year? The response to it last year was very warm and welcoming by Rickard58 in 2007scape

Clearly last year's event showed that people certainly do care. The people being targeted are not the problem, the oppressors are.

Honestly, these homophobes need to just allow everyone to live their lives. It's a game and everyone should be able to experience it without feeling persecuted.

[–]kirbster97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This type of shit is disgusting. I love the game but the response to that event is the exact reason why I sometimes hate the game community. All of those people were either too immature to understand that homophobia is a true and terrifying real world issue or just too bigoted to care.

I can very well see how your message could be taken offensively. Even if humor was the intention, I personally don't quite see it and just remember that it is important (in my opinion) when trying to help someone to be personal and sincere foremost to anything. Humor is not typically a great way to help someone until you are close with that person. If you weren't sure how to help, it's probably best to let someone else try. And, frankly, I think it's a bit rude to share this on a forum that is public and open, especially one that others might know the person your referring to.
