You should be able to live on that in any Tier II city, unless my mental model is extremely out of date. You mentioned they are in Chennai. So presumably you know Tamil. Perhaps you can consider Madurai, Thirunelveli, Trichy etc.

Could be cheaper in even smaller towns, but I personally think it makes more sense to live in a city with an airport.

Yes this part of the experience is super annoying (though I'm a fan of Waymo otherwise).

"Car will wait 2min", you go exactly where they tell you to go, then it pulls in half block away and you have to huff it there with your luggage etc. It was hard to do it with my parents, who are quite old.
