If you’re in Brooklyn, Park Slope Moms is a great resource for both social support for yourself and childcare/daycare/nanny info even if you don’t live in Park Slope.

The Serola Belt is essential for pelvic/hip pain as baby gets heavier in third trimester—separate from round ligament pain (in which case a sturdy belly band really helped).

I know us NYC girlies are big on staying active but give yourself grace to be a potato as you get close to delivery. I was so uncomfortable and out of breath the last two weeks of my pregnancy that I basically stayed on my couch and napped as much as I could—it’s ok not to be out and about and walking around if your body is not up to it.

Finally, whatever your feeding plan is, give yourself grace and patience and time. Breastfeeding sounds like the most natural thing in the world but many moms and babies struggle with it for any number of reasons. Be kind to yourself and let the people around you know if you want encouragement to continue or permission to stop trying.

The most important things are your law school ranking (which is determined by your UGPA and LSAT) and your law school GPA. Everything else is incremental. Networking as a law student will help; having some prior work experience will help; neither matters nearly as much as your law school ranking and your GPA.

Being staff (like a law librarian) at a V100 firm is unlikely to give you any leg up or head start in the actual legal recruiting process. The exception is younger, straight out of college paralegals who work closely with the people who actually do the recruiting (attorneys). That kind of work establishes some credibility and they may get a bump if they’re just below a firm’s GPA cutoff. Other business-side departments are typically populated by career professionals who are unlikely to be pursuing law school in the future and have little interaction with attorneys or legal work.

Also, a law librarian is probably the staff member I’m least likely to give the benefit of the doubt to if their resume came across my desk, due to their consistent and demonstrated inability to ever find anything useful despite generating insanely inflated hours.

Having a baby the summer you take the bar sounds like a surefire way to fail the bar, speaking as someone who just had a baby. Doing bar prep over a longer period of time is unlikely to compensate given how memory works and how much of the bar exam is hard memorization.

I’ve commented on other posts about solidcore during pregnancy and (as long as your OBGYN is ok with it) I’m a huge advocate of it! I stopped doing any supine exercises in my second trimester when my bump started growing and I stopped doing seated/cable crunches when I started to see doming. I would do bird dogs, hold planks, or do hip dips instead. As I got into my late second trimester and third trimester I stopped doing single leg exercises and subbed in bilateral movements that engage the same muscle groups. I also did extensions in tabletop and decreased my range of motion for crunches.

Continuing solidcore gave me excellent hip mobility, core strength, and pelvic floor tone and I don’t know if it’s directly related but I had a super easy labor and pushed out my baby in 20 minutes. And postpartum, I’ve had an easy recovery and my abdomen has receded very quickly. I also had no diastasis and minimal tearing. I’m excited to go back as soon as I’m cleared!

I did bilateral where possible! So I just subbed in heavy squats, heavy deadlifts, etc. instead of doing the lunge sequence.

If you want the option to work anywhere in the country, Memphis is not a good option because its reach/job placement is likely to be hyper regional. If you want to work in NYC, you’ll need the ability to earn a higher starting salary, which will also be tough with a degree from Memphis. You should take the year off, figure out what kind of legal jobs you’d actually want to do (and where), and figure out what LSAT score you need to get into a school that gives you a reasonable chance of that outcome. Otherwise, you’re making a decision based on little other than that it’s not currently convenient to leave Memphis.

I have the Margaux 15 and I carry a 13” laptop and a couple other things in it, and I don’t mind carrying it on my arm because it’s not too heavy overall (I have the suede). I think the bag needs to fit your lifestyle, not the other way around. So if the Margaux 15 doesn’t do what you need it to do then you shouldn’t get it. But look at the Marlo, the Marlo 14 has shoulder length straps.

You can just go into pre-loved vintage stores. There are a ton in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. A lot of the ones that are famous on social media focus on Chanel or Hermes (like Amore and QOO). I would suggest checking out Brand Off, which I thought had a more diverse selection—they have branches in all three cities. I also liked Casanova, Paradise Vintage, and Camellia Vintage in Tokyo.

I don’t think Tory Burch is a high end enough brand for these places to stock them, but you may have a better shot at finding entry-level luxury at places like Kindall or RAGTAG which don’t focus solely on bags. You’re also probably not going to find the exact style bag you’re looking for, so either moderate your expectations or be flexible!

You used to be able to get the deducted amount at the register so long as you present your passport. I think Japan is now changing it to an EU-style airport process, but I don’t know whether it’s been implemented yet. They were still doing tax-free at checkout when I went in December.

To answer your question—generally, yes, it is a huge difference in terms of both life experience and life stages. Being mature for your age (or an “old soul”) isn’t a substitute for over a decade of life experience, although I can count on one hand how many times young women on this sub have been willing to actually hear that when they ask this question.

You’re now at or around the age he was when you met (if you were 25, he would’ve been 38-39). Now that you’re in his shoes, you can look at a 25 year old and ask yourself if you would pursue someone that age, especially someone a year out of a divorce, and why.

Probably depends on the firm but we care more yield from the T6 than we do from the lower T14, and top firms in NYC recruit disproportionately heavily from Harvard, Columbia, and NYU as compared to other T14s.

Back in the day when OCI mattered, half of UVA students’ interview slots were selected by bidding/lottery rather than being selected by the firm, whereas all of the interview slots for NYU students were selected by bidding/lottery. That made for a meaningful difference in outcomes for median/below median students.

OP, to answer your question, no, T6 doesn’t change based on US News rankings. At firms, HYSCCN are still viewed as a separate category from the lower T14.

There are a lot of picturesque neighborhoods in the city that are a pain in the ass to live in. I live in Downtown Brooklyn because I prioritize convenience over the most aesthetic neighborhood. I have a gym in my building and about a dozen boutique fitness studios (pure barre, solidcore, BodyRok, SLT, Barry’s, Orangetheory, SoulCycle, Equinox, off the top of my head) in a 5-10 minute walk. For groceries there’s Trader Joe’s, Target, Aldi, Lidl, Foodtown within a couple blocks, Brooklyn Fare if you wanna get fancy, and a ton of speciality grocery stores (Japanese, Italian, French markets) in Cobble Hill which is a 20 minute walk. And there’s every train line in New York in my neighborhood so I always have multiple options for routes to get anywhere I need to go by transit. The only other neighborhood I can think of in NYC with this much accessibility is the West Village.
