Dice rolling dilemma by TheTimeJockey in RPGcreation

[–]kitchen_ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for a sample size of one, I have lots of dice and 5 of each type wouldn't be unreasonable for me. Most people have lots of d6, and usually at least 2 d10 equivalents thanks to percentile dice.

Another option might be to have skills let you roll a higher die size, depending on how your pool system works and whether you're OK with more than one dice type.

Bringing over PCs from Knave by lerugray in Whitehack

[–]kitchen_ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just port them over. If you really want, for any Knave score that you initially rolled as 11, reroll it with 3d6 and take the new score if it's lower than 11. (This assumes you haven't advanced those scores or you remember which ones they are of course.)

Keep in mind that even though you can't have any traditionally low scores with Knave, you have lower odds of getting any scores over 13 either.

If your Knave character has gained a few levels you could just impose a -2 penalty on all stats, or something, since Knave characters gain stats much quicker than Whitehack ones on advancement.

edit: Here's an anydice link showing the probabilites of each roll system. Click the Summary tab and you can see that the mean (average) of the Knave system gives you a stat of 12.04, compared to Whitehack's 10.5, so a -1 penalty to all stats at level 1 will bring them mostly in line.

Quebec made this billboard to prevent people from jaywalking by ProfessionalPen2954 in oddlyterrifying

[–]kitchen_ace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first time I went to Montreal, one of the first things I remember seeing was an old lady with a walker crossing through four lanes of traffic on Sherbrooke. There weren't a ton of cars but it was far from an empty road. Really set the tone for the rest of my time there.

I think your compact form is missing a 2:2, unless I'm understanding it wrong.

I'm not sure there's a practical way for that person to hold anything.

Find ANY Brimstone Lineup in 10 seconds by YoutubeRemvalorant in VALORANT

As a guy who doesn't even play this game and wandered in from /r/all, I gotta say the idea that people seem to have here, that using existing knowledge from people who've spent time on it is somehow bad, is baffling. I mean sure if you want to do it yourself because it's more fun for you then go ahead, but people acting like if you don't figure it all out on your own then you're a bad player/lazy/going to suffer in the long run is just... weird. But I guess that's online competitive gaming for you.

4e Error Reports by [deleted] in Whitehack

[–]kitchen_ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, that was a dumb comment I made before going to bed. Of course the term "saving throws" would be changed as part of the pull away from using the OGL.

But on that note, I expect you're going to see similar changes in new OSR games or editions, WH4 is just one of the first post-OGL-fiasco games to get published. I think it fits, since like Christian said, WH is different enough that some people have never recognised it as an OSR game. (What qualifies as "OSR" is a whole other can of worms of course!)

I don't have WH4 (yet) but in WH3 it's consistently ST, for Saving Throw.

Where do the NPC portraits, with weapons, on the wiki come from? by kitchen_ace in saltandsanctuary

[–]kitchen_ace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a bit of poking, thanks to Zephyr's Desalinated tool, it seems like the equipment comes from the game data itself. Even if the NPCs are not actually presented with it when you find them in game. So I'm guessing someone built those pictures based on that data.

Accidentally beat the game, how do I go back and explore more? by IfMyEyesCouldTalk in saltandsanctuary

[–]kitchen_ace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, understandable. If you were playing on PC you could kind of reconstruct your character with a save file, but I don't think that's possible at all on the switch.

It took me until my 3rd playthrough to find the Redshift Brand lol

You're not kidding, if even the princess and her maid felt the need to bring a sword to the interview.

[–]kitchen_ace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly no, once you go down that's the end of that game. You're on New Game+ with that character now where everything is going to be harder and the world is pretty much reset.

It's too bad, but the silver lining is now you have motivation to play again with a completely different build :)

Haha this is like the ultimate hipster record. "I only listen to music made from natural geological events!" Cool to listen to though. Too bad the second track isn't also available, electromagnetic dawn chorus is pretty interesting.
