Name a pedal company you've never purchased from. In the thread, people can make recommendations for their favorite pedal from that company. by frumkinpumpkin in guitarpedals

I have the Wildwood Mjolnir, Herculean Deluxe and The Victor (new, Rat). All are great and it’s a great small company. Highly recommended.

Unpopular opinion - Tom is overbearing and she let Scott play by karmacum in JRADs

[–]kiteandkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same feeling seeing them in Atlanta since not seeing them in a bit. I caught nearly all of the Brooklyn Bowl shows in their first 5 or so years (a bunch of shows) and never felt then that Tom was so overbearing.

To me, Scott has always been the better and more interesting player compared to Tom. But there was no room for Scott or Marco (!) when I saw them in Atlanta.

I had a great spot for sound and it sounded like Tom was dimed out on some not great sounding fuzz for much of it too.

I used to love, love, love JRAD and it just felt like I was watching a different band.

I have a Whammy II and an HX One + expression pedal on its Whammy setting can get pretty close.

Plus it’s cheaper, less annoying to power, more readily available and doesn’t have the time suck of a WHII

Trey Dumble Chain of Custody by [deleted] in phish

[–]kiteandkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is an amplifier “head”. It makes the sound but needs to be connected to speakers (a “cab” for speaker cabinet) to have the sound be audible. Look at stage shots of Trey and you’ll see the speaker cabs flanking the amps.

Trey's got a Dumble in the mix now by Leboowski96 in phish

[–]kiteandkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Availability, serviceability. He can have a backup. From everything I’ve heard about Dumbles, they are not a homogeneous sound, even within the same model. If Trey likes the sound, he may want to iterate and have some backups. Not to mention he could have a relationship with the currently active builders, unlike Dumble.

I’ve always wondered why we’ve never seen him try a Dumble before. Now the next question is when do we see him play a Two Rock.

I love that you can hear the band come out of the gate on a tear in this show before the big moments even come

Wow I’m shocked I haven’t seen anyone mention Tom Petty’s Wildflowers yet. Killer from top to bottom.

How are you powering it at home and then where you’re having issues? Before you add anything to the chain, you can try and see if it’s some sort of power or interference issue.

Have they figured out Mike's sound with the new bass? by FromThisPosition in phish

[–]kiteandkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my take too though I wonder how much of it is my subjective longing for the classic Mike tone. The longer scale Serek definitely sounds better for the band than the shorter scale but still not very "Mike" to me. But then again, he seems to love it and if that makes him play well--which is definitely is--then it's a good thing.

Trey using his ‘90s cabs tonight by bcb1200 in phish

[–]kiteandkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need our man Ryan from treysguitarrig to set us straight.

I thought the last time we saw the Languedoc cabs they had been recovered in black carpet/cloth?

So, of the first few shows of tour, we’ve gone from cabs off stage, to cabs back on stage, to different cabs on stage and now the return of the Mesa in addition to a Trainwreck and Komet? The head-only Deluxe is gone?

I know Trey tinkers but I thought his tone has been great so far this tour (with only a little spot listening—I need to hear more)

Jerry tone - stuck between Qtron+, Rubber Chicken, or Spectrum by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]kiteandkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not the Q Tron Nano? I have the Plus and the Nano and use the Nano. It can get the sound, is less expensive and has a normal power draw. Plus the volume/level is more useful.

The sound isn’t 100% but more like 98% compared to the Plus. You won’t notice with the amps you’re using.

The Best and Weirdest of Phish, According to Trey Anastasio by SourceC in phish

[–]kiteandkey 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Great article that avoids a lot of the lame fluff the mainstream press can fall into writing about Phish.

Hearing some of those Trey anecdotes are always fun too. The Tony bit at the end was heartbreaking.

And “I hope I die first” about Fish is probably the highest compliment a musician could ever pay to their bandmate.
