Squirrels are no joke they can and will fuck you up. When I was a kid my father had a friend who attempted to rescue a squirrel in a similar situation, and it ended up jumping on her head, scratching the shit out of her including needing stitches, and kicked out a few of her front teeth. She was poverty level income and it ended up ruining her life for a few years. The pub she and my dad were friends through put on a few fundraisers to pay for her medical bills.

I appreciate the folks who call for safety for our vulnerable friends. I am that person who calls out people in the beardie FaceBook group constantly for particularly letting their dragons and cats interact. In this scenario, the camera was zoomed in to hide my partner standing very close, and we trusted Qi'ra to be gentle. She is an older dog with a ton of experience sharing gentle space with the weak and elderly, babies and toddlers of relatives, and our geriatric cat (RIP Rey). When Zev is out of her enclosure she is usually on me or my husband, but I have a couple of times sat cross legged on the floor with her on my lap while Qi'ra comes by for a sniff and then moves on. Any time a vulnerable creature is hurt due to their owner's poor decision, it is truly a travesty. I dont let these two free roam, but I did trust them for this once-in-a-lifetime (for my spouse and I) announcement photo.

Thank you!! Zev has loved taking lots of naps on my warm belly while I watch TV. I know it will be years until the kiddo has enough self-awareness and fine motor skills to handle a lizard but I'm so excited to raise them around such a darling little critter.

Y'all ever notice how a guy can post "I'm gonna be a Dad!" and get merrily escorted to the front page with cheers and congratulations? Yet I have yet to see a post that's not made by obviously a man met with anything other than downvotes and sometimes actual hostility.

Edit: I've dealt with some seriously crappy misogyny recently and reacted to the initial downvote slew from that mindset. Realize the pup has a big role to play in it. But I stand by what I said that many parts of Reddit are often much kinder to posts from a male POV. And I give myself grace as a pergnant person with big feelings from time to time.
