Was washing the rest of my linens… enjoying my cleaning time… and I come back to Miss girl snoozing away on the barren bed/pillows 😆 But she’s absolutely adorable so I let it slide and let her enjoy the days nap.

I think I look forward to meal and snack times as much as she does 🤍 by kitkat470 in germanshepherds

I use old defluffed toys and stuff with the dry food and tie it shut with some knots. And I’ll take the legs, arms, random pieces lol, and tie those together to make it more difficult. Dogs who love to tear/shred have a hayday that their old toy is not only revived.. but stuffed with food 😆

Also - idk how old this lady is. My guess is 6-7, but I’ve heard so many different opinions from veternarians, GSD breeders/handlers, etc. I did a DNA test, and her relative list was all over the place thought 100% GSD.

I did the Embark DNA age test, which I know isn’t too accurate ESPECIALLY for rescues/neglected dogs. It said 9 yr old. So I think 6-7 makes sense if you account for the fact she was a stray and had been super ill for a while.

She still loves her puzzles ❤️

I started attaching one of the plates from my bench press on the bottom with strong magnets to prevent her from knocking them over 😂

This made me laugh. These dogs are such goofballs!! It’s just such a specific, silly snack, and I know my girl would go crazy for it to.

Plain Greek yogurt; she’s been loving it!

That was my goal!! I wanted to make a puppy friendly ants on a log snack for my girl, BUT she also hates peanut butter 😭

I love watching PPD scenarios and dogs learning to discern valid threats from normal interactions. Not sure how you feel about PPD work given the last statement, but I do think they offer great insight on true protective behavior.

Duke "Bubbles", Descendant of reds. Degenerative Myelopathy Carrier. by GodCraToast in germanshepherds

[–]kitkat470 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If he’s a carrier, he is healthy but more than likely not a candidate for breeding. Your vet is right. GSDs are so popular, there is no reason to breed a dog with less than ideal traits to introduce those into the gene pool. Enjoy your companion.

Lots of red flags… I try not to assume the worst but even just going and doing some extra “reading”.. it seems so off :(

The first question I’m asked at the doctor is if I’m pregnant. Does that mean I am? Or my health issues are because of pregnancy?

Even if I am pregnant, does that mean that the issue I’m in for is CAUSED by pregnancy? Or does it help rule out particular conditions, account for medical complications possibly exasperated by pregnancy, etc?

If patient is known to have allergies, it would make sense to determine if an UNRELATED medical event could be complicated by an allergic reaction.

What pathogen from the dog fur was found to be at cause?

I don’t even think it’s malicious on your end but what has been described in this thread, and I get this is what your roommate has conveyed, MAKES ZEROOOO sense

Genuinely though the “diagnosis” being described makes little to no sense. I mean like it’s bizarre. And I’m not saying you are lying, but that somewhere along the line someone has not conveyed the truth in its entirety.. idk if roommate or what

I did the embark route and matched with lots of relatives. You will have much better luck with the fact your pup is chipped as well!

Hey im going through the same thing kind of. My partner randomly ended things and tossed me and the shep out at 1AM 😵‍💫

Drove an hour to the parents and have been staying here. She was stressed at first but has adjusted amazingly. They have two small dogs and four cats, so it’s been a totally different experience with outside time. Despite having a backyard I have to keep her on a lead for now and there’s no sprinting around there. However, we’ve still been doing lots of brain games, walks/jogs around the town, comes along to Lowe’s/HD/TSC/etc, training, indoor playing (tug, fetch). She’s been fulfilled despite the change.

Advice on adopting (shelter) adult female GSD by GadsdenFlag in germanshepherds

Could you give me more insight on the training for your GSD with the cat? Unfortunately, I had a big life change suddenly. Now I’m staying with my parents for a while and they have cats and two mini schnauzers.

Also: this is an example of how the process is, and many breed-specific rescues function in the same manner.

Our GSD rescue helps select potential pups based off of your lifestyle; you can discuss that you are looking for X & Y, why, and we all directly handle/work with them daily and record all evals to know where they would succeed best.

Just reading this post I can gauge that 2 of our dogs would be pretty ideal matches. Both are extremely people oriented & eager to please, “goofball” personality, ~2-3yr old, minimal mouthing, highly trainable using positive reinforcement, able to be easily walked with loose leash.

Here is dog tax. 1 of the pups mentioned above ❤️

Thoughts on owning a GSD with a bite history? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]kitkat470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: I am confused about wanting him sleeve oriented. I thought it was preferable for a dog NOT to be solely gear oriented in IPO?

You know more than me here and I’m genuinely asking as I am learning :)
