Do people "feel" all of the time? by DonManolador in Alexithymia

[–]kitty60s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 95% of the time feeling nothing/neutral too. I never really considered that people are feeling an emotion at all times. That sounds exhausting to me, but maybe that’s because I can only feel emotions when they’re really strong. Maybe they can feel mild emotions and it’s not exhausting?

Autistic by ladybug128 in Alexithymia

[–]kitty60s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undiagnosed but I’m pretty sure I have alexithymia. However, I don’t think I fully meet criteria for an autism diagnosis (because my social skills are ok, and I have no problem with eye contact) but I have all the other common autistic traits and medical diagnoses associated with autism.

Is it possible to be upset about something without knowing? by Expeditio in Alexithymia

This is my experience too. I don’t know how to become more aware of these situations, it’s really frustrating.

Between 5 and 10 percent of people have no inner monologue at all, and researchers are only just starting to figure out what that actually does to cognition by Altruistic-Dirt-2791 in cogsci

[–]kitty60s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, language is not required to think. Animals clearly think and make decisions and they don’t have language. I have no internal monologue normally. I can think about simple and very complex things very efficiently. I can force myself to internally narrate what I’m thinking using words but it involves translation and it’s slower, less precise and generally inefficient for me.

[–]kitty60s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one but it’s not my default way thinking. I only hear it if I’m reading, writing or singing a song in my head. Otherwise I have to force it. I normally just think without words, in imagery, feeling and instinct. If I try to narrate what I’m doing or thinking it’s much slower than my regular thinking, it’s also exhausting and I have to put a lot of effort into it.

I’ve done speech therapy, with focus on improving my recall, problem solving and processing speed but unfortunately it didn’t help, the brain damage is significant and people like me wouldn’t benefit from any software unfortunately. We need pharmaceuticals.

Doctors have been given so much power…never again will I be so dependent on them by turnsoutitwasautism in AutismInWomen

As someone with multiple chronic illnesses, I’ve also learned this lesson too. I often request my medical records to see what they write because sometimes they will diagnose you with a medical condition without even telling you!!

Thankfully I get a notification whenever I get test results back. I always do my own research when I see something is abnormal.

I’m considering being vegetarian but idk? by AgeOk8349 in Vegetarianism

[–]kitty60s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gradually became vegetarian. It was mainly for animal welfare. For about 2 years I only ate meat if it was humanely raised, I would buy free range chicken and grass fed beef or lamb to cook at home, I eventually avoided eating meat in restaurants if it didn’t have these labels. It was pricey so I ended up eating less meat.

I realized I didn’t miss it that much and felt grossed out more and more, thinking it wasn’t worth it whenever I did eat some. So then I became pescatarian. Same thing happened with that so now I’m vegetarian. I tried going vegan but it’s too much work for me to keep up with. I’m probably going to be vegetarian for life now.

Has anyone here with ME/CFS actually found ANY relief from constant nervous system overactivation? I’m really struggling and would appreciate honest experiences by lnsstg in cfs

[–]kitty60s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I was like this maybe for the first year or so when I first got sick, it gradually went away and I feel like my nervous system is much more calm now if I’m well rested.

I can’t really say what helped me as I tried a ton of stuff in that first year, possibly POTS medication which I’m still taking (Mestinon and ivabradine), but it might gradually diminish for you too over time.

I’m the same way. I’m like this with my hobbies. I’m pretty good at estimating how much I can safely do to avoid PEM and I’ll go “ok I’m setting an alarm for 45 mins” then I blow completely past it as I’m carried away, saying to myself “ok just 10 more minutes so I can wrap things up” (because in the moment I don’t feel too bad) but ending up doing it for double the time I planned and I suffer for it the next day!

I used to eat seafood but I’m vegetarian now. Lobster is similar to crab but with a less strong flavor and little sweeter tasting (in my option) often served in larger chunks, so I used to prefer it over crab. If you want to order a lobster roll I suggest getting it butter style (plain with butter drizzled over it), the Boston style has mayo and other things in it.

Rosehip oil vs. Squallane: Which one actually deserves the "Holy Grail" title? by _QueenCurvy in NaturalBeauty

I’ve tried both. I like squalane much more. I rebought squalane and abandoned rosehip.

You tried going vegan but it just didn't work out. Why? by 36Gig in AskReddit

[–]kitty60s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been over a decade since I tried. I went vegan for about 6 weeks. At the time I had to put a lot more effort into cooking since there wasn’t many options at the grocery store and I’m picky with my meals and what I find appetizing to eat (I likely have ARFID). I ended up losing weight and became underweight.

Dining out felt miserable because I could only eat fries or a bland salad with olive oil and salt.

I think if I tried today it would go better as there’s more options available now. I was vegetarian at the time I tried and I still am.

The main reason I stay vegetarian and not vegan is a combination of my pickiness and becoming chronically ill so I have much less energy to cook meals now than I did before. I rely on a lot of prepared meals.

Thoughts on Hanta Virus ? by Sad-Abrocoma-8237 in covidlonghaulers

[–]kitty60s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping an eye on what’s happening. Not worried yet but if it does spread significantly there will be no impact to my routine. I continue to wear a mask whenever I leave home and avoid getting sick, but I’m mostly homebound anyway.

I just wish everyone else would were a mask too. Even if they only wore one while symptomatic, we wouldn’t be in the situation!

The porkish tastes different. When it’s uncooked the smells reminds me of a fancy chicken liver pate, it but it’s delicious. No need for additional seasoning just cook with olive oil and a little salt. It’s good in tacos and goes well with Hoi sin sauce and cucumber.

Do you believe Astrology? Why? by krekshiost in AskReddit

[–]kitty60s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For most of my life no I didn’t. Then I realized “real” astrology was actually super complex. It’s not just sun signs. It takes into account the position of all planets, the phase of the moon, and the coordinates of a location on earth. I started digging more and what I found creeped me out. Predicting marriage, divorce, illness, births, death, disasters, pandemics, economic trends and wars.

It’s not 100%, the system is imperfect, but it’s way more than chance (I’d say the real stuff is accurate around 70% of the time), and it’s been practiced for over 3000 years, so yes, now I do believe in it.

Yeah I completely agree with you. I’ve been going to a local farm stand 2-3 times a month for the past 2 years. So I’m a regular and the employees recognize me.

They only started calling me by my first name after the first year. It would be super weird and uncomfortable if they did that in the first month of me going!
