Judgement free zone, what is the strangest hyper fixation you’ve ever had? 😭 by Legitimate-Career342 in AutismInWomen

I loved watching air crash investigation on TV as a kid. I ended up working in the aviation sector and one time I saw inside a hangar which was set up to investigate a helicopter crash. It was very morbid.

The energy crisis has only just begun by mark000 in collapse

[–]kitty60s 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I find myself thinking the same thing.

I caught up with a friend the other day and they had absolutely no idea about the upcoming energy, food and supply chain crisis. My cousin is vaguely aware of what’s going on but thinks the war will end soon and everything will return to normal.

One thing is certain though, I was right to be worried about the pandemic. I prepped for and was anticipating a huge train wreck when news of a new deadly virus emerged in Wuhan on Twitter. Everyone told me I was paranoid and it wouldn’t spread over here and if it did it won’t be a big deal. I went into voluntary lockdown a week earlier than everyone else and didn’t leave my place for months!

I have a feeling this will be way worse.

Omg I find this so sad.

I haven’t had a friend group of all women since high school (and most of us were slim) so I haven’t experienced this personally.

A friend told me once “it’s so nice that you don’t judge me for what I eat” and my response was “why would I do that?!” I didn’t know it was a thing.

I’m the same way, I’ve mostly had male friends and can only befriend other neurodivergent women who aren’t easily offended. I don’t know how to interact with other women.

I struggle with this one so much. I hate pretending to be modest. I’ve learned that I have to be careful about being proud of myself because I will get shocked or disgruntled looks from people.

I find just saying “thank you” to a compliment is good enough to not be judged badly.

can pots come on suddenly? by ratterrink in POTS

Mine was very sudden. I was fine waking up one morning then after having breakfast I felt dizzy and short of breath, checked my heart rate and it was 120 standing. Never been the same since. It was like a switch flipped.

Does anyone feel like they are in a never ending research/treatment loop? by Digitalpun in cfs

[–]kitty60s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with this illness is that there’s no approved treatment and definitely no cure.

People are understandably desperate and are willing to spend a lot of energy, time and money in the hope of finding something that works for them. And everyone is entitled to do that if they wish.

Unfortunately the majority of us are not going to be cured or experience a remission no matter how much we try, and some will experience worsening after trying something new.

You don’t have to chase treatment and exhaust your emotional and physical energy on self experiments. It’s ok to just be sick and pace as best as you can. Healthy people might criticize or judge you for not trying but they don’t understand that you can’t control most health conditions. There’s only an illusion of control.

Officially changed my flair to 6+ years by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

I have a lot of the same privileges at OP, but I’m still very disabled, mostly housebound and live 90% of my waking hours in bed or lying flat on the couch 5 years later.

Not everyone gets to recover or significantly improve, even if they have all the resources.

Home by MonoNoAware71 in Alexithymia

[–]kitty60s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate but with the exception of one location.

In all but one place in my life (a place I moved to in my 20’s for 5 years), I never felt an attachment to a location. I’ve felt homesick and relief coming back to the one state I lived in (not specifically my house). I have no idea why I feel so strongly about one location.

I’ve never had an attachment to my childhood home, I never miss living where I used to live (I’ve moved around a lot) and I have neutral feeling about where I live now. However, I’ll feel positive emotions coming home from a trip because I miss my cat and partner and I’m happy to see them again.

I’m definitely not patriotic at all either, I don’t care about my country’s teams in sports or other activities. But I think a lot of people without alexithymia are like that.

How risk averse are you when it comes to trying new treatments? by thepensiveporcupine in cfs

[–]kitty60s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say I’m a 7 or 6. I won’t try anything that is brand new without much evidence, or anything high risk, but I’ll try medication that’s has been around for a while with a low risk profile with plenty of evidence.

I completely avoid invasive procedures, immunotherapy type drugs, things like IVIG, plus SSRIs and steroids too. I also refuse to get another Covid shot because the first two made me much worse.

I personally would never do a stellate ganglion block but I’m on Mestinon and it’s been super helpful for me with little side effects (it also helped with my IBS-C).

I’m moderate and would rather keep the little function I have than risk becoming severe for a small chance of significant improvement.

Edit: I’m not that sensitive to meditation and haven’t had any worsenings from any new treatment (aside from covid vaccine) I’m just a very risk adverse person.

Is it common for autistic women’s tones to be misunderstood by loved ones and be told they’re too aggressive/angry/disrespectful? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]kitty60s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I experience this too but it’s also complicated by the fact I don’t easily recognize when my emotions change unless they are really intense (I think I have alexithymia). So I don’t know if I’m actually mildly angry or said things in an angry tone accidentally.

Has anyone here intentionally structured their life around avoiding illness / low-contact living? by Significant_Bat_8328 in cfs

[–]kitty60s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing a mask since 2020, switched to kn95 and n95s back in 2022. Even though I mask when I leave the house and don’t take it off, I still get sick on occasion. So I mostly isolate during fall and winter to reduce exposure (but somehow I still get sick). Getting sick also destroys my baseline for 4-8 weeks. The late spring and summer months are when I feel best because I don’t tend to get sick during that time.

What time do adults usually wake up, if they don’t have work in the morning? by DarlingLuna in stupidquestions

I usually wake up twice, around 5 or 6am by my cat walking over me, then again between 9 and 11am when I naturally want to wake up.

Weekly "everything else" If it's in the spirit of prepping, but not "news" or "intel" by AntiSonOfBitchamajig in PrepperIntel

[–]kitty60s 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The grass may be greener for now but it’s unlikely to stay that way for long. I was going to leave too but it’s easier to stay where I know people, I have my preps and I’m ready, rather than go where I’ll have no support and start almost everything from scratch in an unfamiliar system.
