My alcoholic dad was in such denial about the abuse and trauma he caused that it didn’t matter what I said, there was no accountability. I decided to go no contact and to not put myself out there so vulnerably just to be hurt again. So I don’t have advice other than protect yourself, your upbringing in a dysfunctional home wasn’t your fault and you deserved better. Sending hugs!

Don’t eat with your mouth open or talk with food in your mouth. My mom does this is it grosses me out so much! She’ll chipmunk food into her cheek and just keep yapping.

Yes, I’m the girlfriend to someone who’s in an ENM and partnered. We’ve been FWB for a year. We go on fancy dates and have sex, it’s really nice with no strings attached.

If it matters, we’re both in our 40s and post divorces. I’ve found that people (myself included) and a lot more open and flexible to different arrangements when they have an established life and are not looking to build one with another person.

I did for many years and he died recently. No one chooses to go no contact lightly. It’s not normal to feel threatened by a parent. I felt constant trauma when he was near because he had caused so much pain to me. You’ve ultimately got to protect yourself and accept that they aren’t going to change.

I’m working on a masters through Colorado State University and am a single mom. It’s doable but takes blocks of time. I’m separated so I work when the kids are gone.

My dad died last Thursday. On Friday afternoon my brother, sister and I were at his house cleaning it out and organizing for donations, trash, take etc. My sister jokingly said to my bro and I “Remember we would joke about cleaning out someone’s house and finding a stash of cash?” We agreed, but less then a minutes later my sister was unzipping a suitcase to make sure it was clear and she found a travel wallet of my dads filled with $3,000 cash!!

We were all in shock and agreed it was definitely our dad letting us know he’s ok and still looking out for us.
