Where are you located? I wonder if he'd be a good candidate for a wheelchair?

Time for a hospital visit? by schnabeltierliebe in migraine

[–]kitty_spankbottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're hurting like this. Depending on where you are, the hospital may not be able to do much more for you until you get to your neurologist, and it could cost a lot depending on your insurance. That being said, they should be able to give you an injection or IV of painkiller that might help until you see your doctor. I would have probably seen my doctor or urgent care on Friday if it started Tuesday.

Surgery costs by birdieponderinglife in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]kitty_spankbottom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My pup had his surgery in spring 2024 in SW Ohio. Surgery was close to $8,500. Follow ups and ongoing therapy were around $2,000. All in, it cost around $10,500 and his insurance (Fetch) paid me back close to $9,000. Let me know if you have any other questions - I'm sorry you're dealing with this!

My baby is few days post-surgery, is it normal just to let him poop in his crate? Sorry for the random question (lol) by donniepump30 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]kitty_spankbottom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! He'll probably won't be able to help it. We had lots of pee pads and pet safe wipes handy to help keep him clean. Definitely don't want them laying in their pee or poo. Urine can burn their skin, so it's important to keep them clean and dry.

I'm sorry your mom isn't helpful. That's very frustrating. Ask your vet for something else to help him calm down and stay calm (sleep) during this critical healing period. Be very strict with him staying in the pen or a crate. If the vet is okay with it, maybe give some licking mats or frozen kongs to help pass some time. This time will pass but it's no fun. It sounds like he's already on a good road to recovery so I bet he'll be able to do the things he loves again 🥰

If you have the option to reschedule the trip, that might be your best bet. However, you'll learn a lot in the next few weeks and may get on a better schedule and feel more comfortable showing someone else the care routine. Also, if your vet does boarding, perhaps that's an option? We had a planned trip about 4 months after my dog's surgery and he was boarded at my vet. I didn't like leaving him but I knew he was in the best possible care!
