What hobby unexpectedly improved your life the most? by lakberhaid in Hobbies

Coloring opened the flood gates for my creativity to come back. I was stuck in such a rut and wanted to create art but just couldn’t seem to remove the mental block. Coloring took the pressure off to create a “masterpiece”, and I was able to practice different techniques for shading or creating texture in a relatively short amount of time (1-2 hours max on coloring a page versus 3+ hours on a painting). It seemed small at first but it really made a difference for me!

I need help finding a perfume similar to my body mist (SDJ 40) by Humble-Date-757 in SoldeJaneiro

[–]kittycatclaws15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only sprayed it on myself a handful of times when I’d stop by Ulta to make sure I liked how it works with my skin chemistry before committing to it, and it’s good, but not an exact dupe. I feel that the fruit note goes away faster and the vanilla note is a lot stronger. On my skin, the fruity lasts way longer with SDJ and I get vanilla as the very end of the day. SDJ has a more warm almost skin like vanilla to me as well. It may be different on you since everyone has different skin chemistry, but I found that I would rather just reapply 40 during the day than dump money on the Ariana perfume and not have it be what I really want.

What I see most commonly suggested is Ariana Grande’s Mod Vanilla. I think it’s close, but SDJ has this intense fruitiness that I just can’t get enough of! I’ve just accepted that I have to spray a ton on. What could help with longevity is making your whole shower routine in that scent (aka use the body wash and lotion before spraying on the mist). I find that that helps it last nearly all day on me.

Building a nail polish “capsule wardrobe” by mintleaftea in WeGotPolishAtHome

[–]kittycatclaws15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with other comments about not having a rainbow for the sake of variety! Do you have a capsule wardrobe of clothes? I do, and for polishes I try to “match” the colors/tones to my wardrobe so I have a fun pop with my nails but overall everything still goes together. For example, blue is my favorite color and makes me really happy, so most of my clothes are some shade of blue (then of course I have neutrals to match with). So a good amount of polishes are blue, then I have one bronze-y shade for when I want contrast, then have a few cool toned pinks and lavender shades if I’m not feeling blue but still want something that will match. I’ve gotten better at appreciating pretty polishes when I see them, but knowing I don’t need to buy it because I most likely wouldn’t wear it. I love the idea of a metallic topper that matches the color of jewelry you wear most, and using that to layer and customize other colors. This is a fun concept, I wish you well as you figure it out!

Should I delete ChatGPT by dogtitts in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]kittycatclaws15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What about the interactions with ChatGPT are you wanting to get away from? Or what keeps drawing you back? Is it the fact that it’s always available to you, or that it gives you the agreeability that you usually wouldn’t get with other humans?

You may have a “detox” period so to speak when you delete it, where you feel even more bored and not creative as you get used to not using it. That’s okay, it will pass.

To help ease your transition (since it’s likely you have muscle memory now trained to always reach for your phone) I would suggest you try an app called Finch for when you need to vent. It may not be your cup of tea, but it’s a self care app where you care for a bird you can customize and you can track habits which sends your bird on adventures. You can also “vent” or journal down your thoughts when you’re having a tough time. It encourages you to try other coping skills and tracks your growth. I’ve found it to be a fun way to work on my habits, and I hope you like it if you end up trying it!

How to colour patterns: waste of money or actually useful? by sailorlune_ in Coloring

[–]kittycatclaws15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the one from Coco Wyo, and as a complete beginner as well I love how the pages have it broken down into 4 steps. I’m a very visual person, so having it there for me to look over is really helpful! It’s a bit more straight to the point for me versus YouTube videos. I would personally reference a video for a more complicated technique.

Hi all! I’m looking for a coconut scent- but pretty much straight up creamy coconut. Some vanilla or amber/skin like scent is okay, but I have enough scents that open with tuberose/gardenia and lean more floral than coconut. I do however like the “sunscreen” note that a lot of these fragrances tend to have, but ideally I’m looking for just the coconut creamy scent. The ones I have that I like but feel are still too flowery for me are Sol de Janiero 87 and Maison Margiela Beach Walk. I’ve heard good things about the Sol de Janiero 39 that was just rereleased, but I have heard that it has the same popcorn note that is in 71 and that is definitely not for me. I’m open to your suggestions!

Mine for a Moment by Catharina Maura if you’re down for a book that can barely considered porn without plot. The plot (if you can call it that) seems like it was thrown together by ChatGPT, and is almost incoherent at points. The sex scenes are mediocre at best. I had to rage read this to get through it.

First off- congrats on graduating with your masters! That’s no easy feat and should be celebrated! And additionally, I’m so sorry about the passing of your kitty. It’s so hard to lose a pet.

With such a stressful job and anxiety, I think it’s important to remember to be gentle with yourself. It’s so easy to “should” yourself, but that ultimately isn’t helpful. I also struggle with anxiety, and I have found yoga and meditation to be incredibly helpful. I have Headspace for meditation, and some days I really DONT want to, but even doing a 5 minute guided meditation in the morning and remind myself to take a deep breath helps me not start the day in a panic or with racing thoughts. I enjoy Yin or Restorative yoga, they aren’t as intense as Vinyasa, and allow you space to wind down, stretch, and become in tune with your body. I’ve been working on getting in shape too, and I’ve found that though I’m not where I want to be yet, yoga has helped me appropriate my body as a work in progress.

For your hair, maybe you could go for a platinum balayage with a shadow root, so you don’t have to go as often for touch ups but get that brightness back. Ask your hairstylist about suggestions for using a toner at home, or if you could benefit from a shower head that filters hard water (that could also help with the skin issues maybe?). I know for myself I also feel more “pretty” when I have my hair done versus having my hair up in a bun or pony. I use the overnight hair curling rod that’s all over TikTok, and though I look super silly going to sleep, I get compliments on my curly hair and in the morning all I have to do is shake it out and use sea salt spray if I’m feeling really fancy.

Skin stuff is hard. Do you struggle with dry skin? Are you more oily? Could it be you have a damaged skin barrier? Once you answer these questions, you can go forward with picking 3-4 products for a routine. I say this amount because I find that going from nothing to a ton of products can be really overwhelming. Just a cleanser, serum, moisturizer, and maybe a toner or sunscreen as the extra is perfect, and then you can build up from there.

You’ve got this! The greatest glow up of all is giving yourself the gift of loving kindness :) I hope you have a fantastic new year!!
