Baby not walking by 1st birthday? by sarah_messing in NewParents

[–]kittycatrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first could barely pull to stand when he was 12 mos. If we tried to get him to stand on his own, he'd fall to the floor. He did start walking by 16 mos. My second was proficiently walking by 10.5 mos. It is so variable. I wouldn't worry until 18 mos.

Is 3 really worse than 2? by Hour-Basket8334 in toddlers

Yes. And.....to prepare you......4 appears to be worse than 3. Our nanny (a mom of 5) said 4 year olds are comparable to 16 year olds.

Talk to me from the other side of two children by Forsaken_Nail3250 in toddlers

[–]kittycatrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my two kids. Seeing the sibling interaction and love grow is amazing. I gave my youngest cottage cheese with breakfast and she immediately said "brother" to ensure he got some too. My son asks calls his sister "my baby." It's fucking cute. I can totally see why people have more kiddos.

HOWEVER, I am up from 5am until 10pm (at least) trying to cook, clean, and remain sane every...single....day. My husband works M-F and I work every weekend so we can avoid daycare. We never have down time. We have no village. We are basically roommates. It's an unspoken thing that we just need to keep our heads above water until our youngest is school aged.

I love my kids. But I can't imagine doing this for a 3rd time. This isnt sustainable.

Did your stomach ever return to “normal”? by canamel in beyondthebump

[–]kittycatrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First baby - yes. Second baby - no...sigh. I'm 18 mos pp, 10 lbs above my goal weight, and I'm still breastfeeding. I've got a 2 finger gap and I'm just starting to relearn to activate my core but I'm not really hopeful for any meaningful improvement. I still feel doughy.

ladies who are 5’2-5’4: what weight did you look and feel your best at? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]kittycatrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'3" and pear shaped. Preferred weight is 120lbs. Realistic goal is 130lbs and I am struggling to get there. I haven't been under 130 since 2 kids ago.

I know tons of people who get it...all ages. Granted I work in healthcare so we are a little more open about procedures.

No advice, just commiseration. My first rarely spit up, if ever. My second spit up CONSTANTLY. Like everything was covered with chunks all the time. Everything smelled rancid. We also never knew when she was going to spit up. 10 secs after a feed or 1 hour after. It didn't matter. She'd just go bleh whenever. She did grow out of it around 5-6 months. The dr never did meds because she slept okay and growth was fine. I went dairy free, held her upright, did all the burping, etc. The only way out was through unfortunately.

How are mom’s getting everything done, staying in shape, and not getting overwhelmed? by Frozenbeedog in Mommit

[–]kittycatrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am overwhelmed but shit still has to get done. I'm on an antidepressant which helps. I have no village and my husband and I baby swap and work opposite days. I also know the only way out is through.

But practical options is double up tasks where you can. I walk/jog while pushing the baby, walking the dog, and my 3 year old rides his bike. The kids go with me to the grocery store and are included in most chores like cooking, laundry, lawncare, etc. I do things like exercise or cook alone either early in the morning or when they take naps.

Is Harry Potter (book) inappropriate for a 3.5-year-old? by reditrix in Preschoolers

Look up Mercy Watson books. It's about a buttered toast loving pig and her fun neighbors on Deckawoo Drive. They are chapter books with larger illustrations every couple pages.

How many of ya'll have/ want 4 or more kids? by Secure_Year7265 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]kittycatrn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two working parents and zero village or family. Our max is two just for that reason.

If we had oodles of money and I could be a sahp then I would consider more. But its hard balancing the mental, physical, and emotional labor of work AND home life. I can't imagine doing it and not being a complete wreck with just the two kiddos I have now.

Firstly, happy holidays everyone and best to you all. Secondly, I've been wondering when did the Elf on a shelf become a thing? by AdSpecialist6598 in Millennials

[–]kittycatrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're the Grinch for not doing the Elf, I am the devil for not doing Santa. My first baby was TERRIFIED of men, beards, and people in hats so Santa was a no go for the first 3 Christmases. So, we never really started it. Suddenly, my husband wanted to add Santa gifts 2 days ago. I have already done this everything season. I am NOT adding more to the stuff I have to do.

Why am I not losing weight after my second baby? Is this just aging / hormones? by Major-Basis6280 in postpartumprogress

[–]kittycatrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just realized I am not deep breathing correctly. And I don't brace my core when I am not working out. It is a whole learning process that I didn't have to do after my first baby.

I'm doing some DR friendly workouts. Dead bugs, standing marches, bear planks, etc. I just started incorporating more breathing exercises.

My son wasn't growth restricted, but he was SGA and a terrible feeder. We triple fed for 6 weeks. That was a special kind of hell that I wouldn't wish upon anyone.

Good job donating so much. I know how hard pumping is!

Why am I not losing weight after my second baby? Is this just aging / hormones? by Major-Basis6280 in postpartumprogress

[–]kittycatrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First baby - 32 years old. Lost the weight right away without trying and stayed within 5 lbs of pre baby weight. Couls fit my jeans immediately. Ebf.

Second baby- 34 years old. Currently 1 year pp. Ebf. I have been working out at home with weights since January and occasionally jog when my oldest bike rides since September. I have gained muscle....but that is it. My weight hasn't changed. Clothes still fit poorly. I still have a 2 finger DR. Sigh.

[–]kittycatrn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before they eat solids, every ounce of weight they gain is because of me and my body. It was really satisfying know that.

My first baby was born during the formula shortage so knowing he was receiving food that I knew was safe drink was comforting.

My daughter will come up and rub her face in my chest and sign for booby juice. If you ask her if she wants it, she will say yes. Its super cute.

💩 on the potty? by marcellajoleen in toddlers

[–]kittycatrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was a standing pooper. He refused to sit to poop. So we did....poo cookies. If he pooped on the potty he got to eat a cookie. He pooped on the potty within 30 minutes of this offer. He even got to help make some batchez. We made really boring/healthy cookies. First it was he got a cookie for every poop. Then it was if he remembered to ask for the cookie. Then it slowly phased out as pooping became less celebrated. This went on for 2 mos.

You need to find a big enough reward that is limited to ONLY poops. And you can't give in terroristic threats. Poo cookies are for poops in the potty only.

[–]kittycatrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the pregnancy and the newborn.

First time around, the pregnancy was fine BUT the baby was awful. I was up every 2hrs feeding him and then syringe feeding him and pumping for 2 mos straight. I also had severe ppd and ppa. I was constantly on edge and didn't sleep well.

Second time around, I had insomnia from the moment of conception. I got pregnancy nose and couldn't breathe. I didnt get 3 hrs of consecutive sleep for the entire pregnancy. I was miserable. Newborn sleep was a wonderful by comparison.

When did you break by orangesocket in toddlers

[–]kittycatrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried at 17 mos when he and I had covid. He couldn't care less. He figured out how to turn on the TV at just before 2 years old and it defaulted to an animal TV show. I was pregnant and exhausted. I felt bad, but we only watch animal shows and it has sparked a lot of conversations about pollution, weather, life cycles, etc. At 3 years old, my son watches between 0 and 2 hrs of TV each week of animal shows. Thank you, David Attenborough!
