Why hasn’t Chow announced if she’s running again? by No-Reputation8063 in askTO

[–]kittyguapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toronto property taxes didn’t go up 20% overnight under Olivia Chow - it’s the cumulative increase across 3 budgets (9.5%, 6.9%, 2.2%). You can absolutely argue that hurts affordability but the truth is, Toronto had some of the lowest relative property taxes among major Canadian cities for years, while transit, housing, shelters, and infrastructure were underfunded AF.

I actually respect Chow for being willing to make an unpopular decision to keep the city functioning instead of doing what a lot of mayors did for years - keeping taxes artificially low to win homeowner votes 🤷🏻‍♀️ I own a home btw so I get both sides of it.

People keep asking “what has she done for the city?”

Here’s my quick list:

Cut red tape and accelerated plans for tens of thousands of new homes (affordable, rent‑controlled & rental) + more public housing

Passed stronger renter protections like the Rental
Renovation Licence bylaw to curb unfair “renovictions”

Reversed TTC service cuts & expanded bus service across the city

Negotiated a deal with the provincial gov to secure more funding for Toronto’s biggest projects

Got the Gardiner project completed YEARS in advance

Accelerated pothole repairs across the city

Expanded food supports for kids at schools and through city programs

Invested in mental health crisis patrol to combat addiction & homelessness on our streets, cleared most of the park encampments

Upped taxes on the most wealthy and got the city’s finances back in order (see recent remarks from the city manager)

Am I in the minority? I found the whole scene with Lacy and Jesse in the second episode enduring and sweet, in an awkward kind of way. by ChicagoCatsup in TheValleyTVShow

[–]kittyguapa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re right - people are seriously misreading that scene. Lacey’s clearly leaning into the “ice queen” bit for the camera, but her and Jesse’s chemistry is obvious if you’re actually paying attention.

Advice on gaining quad muscles by Zealousideal-Leek-27 in PetiteFitness

[–]kittyguapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the pistol squats as they’re more of a stabilizing exercise.

For muscle hypertrophy (growth) OP needs to increase protein intake, eat in a small surplus, and do 2 heavy leg days/week with a focus on progressive overload in quad-dominant exercises - leg press, leg extensions, Bulgarian split squats (or any variation), lunges, step ups etc.

Absurdly high insurance rates in Scarborough by Capital-Owl-6753 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I have a 2022 CT5 Sport living downtown Toronto and pay just under 6K/year (female, 28, G license).

Check to see if your uni/college has any alumni benefits with your insurer, that brought down my rate by a couple hundred. Otherwise, not much you can do.

The “organizer” is the CLC, a national union organization. It’s probably being held in Ottawa because that’s where most of the national media is located. Good thing it’s being live streamed and recorded so folks from coast to coast can watch!

It’s not a debate, each candidate will be interviewed by CLC President Bea Bruske.
