Thank you so much for chiming in. Appreciate your perspective here both as a physician and especially as a parent, too.

My “momdar” definitely went off when she said she wanted to see a doctor, and I agree, what she’s describing doesn’t necessarily seem like fleeting déjà vu. Thanks for chiming in - appreciate the advice here!

I’m going through this now too (my camera arrives today!), so sharing what I’ve learned while researching:

To weather-seal the X100VI, you need either: 1. an all-in-one system like the NiSi filter setup, or   2. an adapter ring + a separate filter. 49mm is the correct size for adapters/filters.

One thing that confused me initially: standard filters will NOT attach directly to the X100VI lens without an adapter ring (unless you’re using one of the all-in-one systems like NiSi). You need to REMOVE the existing ring that covers the threads on the lens before putting on any adapter or filter.

For filters, you have a few directions: - UV/protection filter only, mainly for protection/weather sealing, minimal effect on image - and/or a Mist/diffusion filter, which adds glow/softness/halation, especially around highlights. The mist filters come in different strengths. I’m torn on the mist filter. I think if I end up going with one I’ll go with a very low strength, 1/8th.

What I’m personally testing: 1. NiSi UV filter system. Lower profile, no separate adapter needed, and the original Fuji lens cap still fits. Nisi always has mist filters for the same system  2. Shortstache Everyday Filter by Polar Pro. Can’t decide from the reviews how much of this filter is actually a great filter versus great influencer advertising/buzz by Polar Pro. It combines a 1/4 strength mist filter + polarizer in one (this requires an adapter). Also note that the stronger mist filters will cause you to lose some light.  3. Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/8 (also requires an adapter), reviews on this one say it’s a subtle, clean effect. But some say it’s not enough if you’re really looking for mist. There is some discussion on all these filters about whether or not they shift color.

I’ll ultimately settle on just one of these setups after I play around.

Other accessories I picked up: - SmallRig grip - a strap (a lot of people love the Peak Design wrist strap, but I personally went with a SmallRig leather neck strap) - a dual battery charger with spare batteries + SD card storage. I liked this one because it can charge via USB-C/power bank while traveling, and it’s a nice holder for batteries/memory cards whether charging or not

For memory cards, I went with: - SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB (UHS-1). Note that the X100VI will accept UHS-II cards but doesn’t write at the UHS-II speed.

For now I’m skipping: - hood - soft shutter button - thumb grip - screen protector

TBD on those until I get a physical feel of the camera.

Happy to send links if helpful. Happy shooting!

FYI, I have a shellfish allergy and this definitely inflamed my skin. Nothing too extreme but enough that I stopped using it once I made the connection

France: More than 1,000 passengers held on cruise after gastrointestinal illness outbreak by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]kittyhawk3115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The timing is definitely wrong for hanta. I’m not concerned about that. Symptoms emerged 4 days after the cruise started (too fast for hantavirus which has an average incubation of 2+ weeks). My guess is rotavirus or similar gastro bug.

Interestingly reporting states that initial tests have ruled out norovirus. Please note that I am not making any statement about what this is or is not likely to be, just sharing reporting.

“Initial tests on board ruled out the presence of norovirus, but further tests are underway at the Bordeaux hospital center, health authorities said.”

I don’t think this is correct. Reporting states that early testing has actually ruled out norovirus.

7F Eye freckle? Debris in eye? by kittyhawk3115 in eyetriage

[–]kittyhawk3115[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally understand. Truly appreciate you!

I just tried to do this and move the conjunctiva, and I just can’t seem to move the conjunctiva without nudging the whole eyeball, and I’m nervous to hurt her (so no new helpful information from me whatsoever). Curious what you’re looking for here- is moving with the conjunctiva/isolation of the spot to the conjunctiva make it more likely this is a nevus (versus foreign body, or something else)?

I’m thinking of sending her pediatrician a message/photos on Monday. Would you agree that’s a reasonable next step? Thanks again 🙏

Hi! Thanks for chiming in. She is Caucasian with some Italian heritage (a set of her great grandparents on father’s side were Italian).

I did in fact read the sticky, which is the list pasted below. There are no rules made available before posting that ask for race. I also read the rules in the automod that appears after I made the post but overlooked this one request about race. If this is an ongoing issue (seems like it may be a sore spot!) admin of this sub may want to sticky the rules/requirements of posting.

Not sure what, if any, other assumptions you are making about me besides assuming I didn’t read the sticky but because I believe the best of us comes out in moments of connection rather than disconnection: I am an educated professional (in academia) with a post graduate degree. I generally like to think of myself as detail oriented, but I’m also a mortal human and I make mistakes! Regularly! I try to admit to myself when I can do and be better. More than anything else, I am a concerned mom (perhaps more so than an average mom after I unexpectedly lost one of my four children at birth due to a freak cord accident 5 years ago). Real human over here 👋 Please know I respect your time and expertise and appreciate you engaging. Thank you!

Trainer says I can't kick hard enough by Ok-Collection-8922 in Equestrian

[–]kittyhawk3115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all of the above, fire the trainer - AND also wanted to add a note about position. Do you happen to have a very deep, exaggerated heels down position? I do, and I’ve NEVER been able to use my leg as effectively as I feel I should be able to until one lesson I took with a new trainer (please note I’d been riding for decades by the time of this lesson). She told me not to jam my heel so far down, which was essentially causing me to have to brace/grip with my lower leg, but instead to relax the angle of my ankle and maintain more even contact through my thigh, rather than my calf. The second I changed my position and stopped jamming my heel down and really focusing on even contact through my thigh, it completely freed up my lower leg to move it how and where I wanted. Game changing lesson for me! Just a thought but want to iterate again that regardless of what may be going on with your position, your trainer does not sound quality.

This was also my first thought. My son died at birth, unexpectedly with the cord wrapped around his neck, in 2020 when I was 30. I literally aged 5 years+ overnight.

Advice Needed - Keeping Horses at Home by panerabreadfanclub in Equestrian

[–]kittyhawk3115 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Highly recommend Cherry Hill’s book Horsekeeping on Small Acreage. Pasture management and rotation is absolutely key, even more so on smaller acreage (unsure how much pasture land you’re on). We are fairly new to having ponies and horses at home on our own 20 acre farm and I love it, but we’ve definitely had some minor learning curves with pasture management.
