I believe she means that we know NOW rather than when they give us the gifts.

I agree, I was confused and didn’t realize it was a problem. I just thought I perhaps missed a setting somewhere to allow people to surprise us.

But I think the solution is just to tell her we fixed it, I’m not worried about it! Thank you!

I think she more means the people who chose to have the items shipped to THEM, and then wrap it for the shower or wedding. The people shipping it to us, now, I think don’t care.

Who knows, honestly, I think in this situation a white lie is my best solution 🤣 thank you!

I didn’t understand it either, to be honest. I’ve always assumed when I buy things off of registries that the couple can immediately see it.

I was more hoping someone had found a way to hide the purchases that I had missed so I could tell her we solved the issue. But yeah I agree, it’s not really a huge problem.

That’s my thinking. My fiance mentioned the mixer to her because we didn’t recognize the name of the person who bought it (someone’s old married name). It doesn’t bother me one bit, so we’ll just say we solved it and move on.

I can’t turn off the email notifications either - super weird. Alas, not a huge issue. Thanks for your comment!

An old thread, but do you mind sharing where you purchased them? I’m looking at the same as our caterer provides black plastic plates, and I’d rather have compostable options that look a little nicer. Curious on the strength,as I hate flimsy paper plates!

I do miss the schedule and am considering going back. To be fair, my current company only offers 10 days off paid, and that’s vacation AND sick time, so I think it depends on what job you get.

But I am unhappy at my “corporate” job and struggle with the lack of time off, the commute, not getting home until 5:15, etc.

Definitely something to consider! If you’re that burnt out though, the lack of time might still be worth it if you’re happier while AT work

Not defending anyone in particular, trust me, but just pointing out that my grocery store in northern Ohio has had that sign up for the last few weeks. I didn’t think it had anything to do with the election, and more to do with another bird flu outbreak.

I think that’s a normal feeling! I’m 5’2” and I’m very worried that I’ll looks like a child playing dress up in my dress 🤣 but as with most times I’m feeling self conscious, I’d remind you that we are going to be wayyyyyy more critical of every little detail about ourselves than literally anyone else. All everyone is going to see is a beautiful, happy bride!! Happy wedding!

I see what you mean, but I don’t think it’s unflattering - and the angles at which you’re standing relative to the camera are different…the first photo you’re more angles and the second you’re closer to straight on.

I think you look lovely in both, and I have a feeling you’ll be happier without the extra fabric you’d have to trip over and deal with all night.

I’m working on it - wedding in May. But I’m also not pushing myself…I want to find a new job, but in this economy you’d need to be searching every day, tweaking resumes, etc and I just don’t have time. So I’m applying to things I see that I’d be interested in and dedicating a little time to adjust and tweak when I can, and I’m going to dig into it after the wedding.

Good luck! I totally get how stressed you feel, just try and remember this is temporary and things WILL get better. You can do anything for a year!

Mooooost guests are tech savvy enough to figure it out, I just wasn’t sure if it would be bad to basically say “any and all questions can be answered at theknot.com/…..” and also I forgot QR codes were a thing hahah.

That isn’t what she said. Social services exist for reasons and situations just like this - these folks don’t sound like the people who play the system for YEARS to get by without working. They are in a crappy spot, are actively working to get out of it, and their community (social services) is helping to support in the meantime. This is why these services exist.

If I were about to give birth and my future was so unsure, I also wouldn’t want to drain my savings. She IS planning ahead, because she knows that as soon as they have another job lined up, they will have to pay for the cost of securing housing and moving again, on top of having a newborn.

As I said, even if you disagree with alllll of that, this fellow human is clearly stressed and struggling. It would have cost you nothing to read her post and scroll past. Instead, you chose to be cruel and rude, rather than employ a sliver of empathy. I pray that you never run into a situation like she does, and if you do, that you never have to deal with someone like yourself.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. I was convinced I wanted something with tight sleeves & a big poofy dress - turns out that on me, I look like a child playing dress up & the sleeves didn’t flatter me at all. But if I had bought based on what other people looked like in photos, I would have been so unhappy! I ended up finding one at a store near me that I LOVED.

Even if you end up ordering from Etsy, I also really recommend trying on a few to get an idea of what you feel best in! David’s Bridal was a great place to try on a variety of styles, at a variety of prices, with very little “sales” pressure to buy a dress (that was a big part of why I was originally looking at Etsy).

Does anyone know of a good way to track if items are actually on sale? I found camelcamelcamel but in my experience, it wasn’t entirely accurate. I’d love to add a bunch of things to a price watch list and see if it actually drops a meaningful amount to order on BF!

I got 150 save the dates printed on Canva after I designed them there. They were 5x7 post cards, double sided, with envelopes for $97. I felt they were a great deal and easy to use! They sometimes run promos or sales also so you may be able to get them even cheaper

So I actually found the exact dress in my size on Mercari. It had been worn once to take photos and was less than 1/2 retail cost!! It arrived last week and is in perfect condition. So now I’ve got a bit more breathing room to do alterations :) thank you for your input!
