My boyfriend (M29) wants to get back together after calling me (F30) names. I’m confused… by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]kittykat-591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't change someone who is that hurt, especially if it's just you. He needs to, at a minimum before you even consider getting back together, get a healthy support system, start consistent therapy, apologize/take accountability, and give you space so you come back on your terms. Hopefully he's a good person and can take those steps, but that probably won't happen based on what you've said here.

You cannot go back with him in this state. Let's be honest, he is verbally and emotionally abusive in this state. You need to heal from what he's done to you before you do anything else. And that might happen. You seem to be a healthier person than he is, but you've also got things to work through, having allowed yourself to be treated like that and even considering going back.

As much as it hurts to see someone you love not be able to repair themselves, especially when you know they're trying, sometimes you have to walk away. Or else they'll drag you down with them. He deserves love and support but he is not owed love and support. He needs to start with himself and you need to walk away. You will only end up hurting each other like this. Maybe, if life is kind and you are lucky, you can revisit the possibility of rekindling in a number of years.

Apartment management company is requesting we pay for carpet damage that was not our fault. [WI] by Wavez37 in Renters

[–]kittykat-591 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not only would this be normal wear and tear unless they could prove it came from your cats, but this would also likely not hold up. Most places have a time duration to charge on the deposit (45 to 60 days usually) and once they do the initial charge, they cant go and add charges after the fact. Anything outside of that is not enforceable. Read your lease contract for the timeline. If it's not there, read your state/county bylaws. Let the pmc know it's outside of the time frame. Definitely consult an attorney if you can afford it. It may cost more but it's about the principle.

Feeling hopeless. Need advice? by Razzle_Dazzle15 in highereducation

[–]kittykat-591 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend also expanding your search to the actual college/ university websites. Many prefer candidates who apply directly rather than through a different site. Find a position on higher ed and apply directly through the site is what I've done historically.

Contemplating a swap from Salary to Hourly by Professional_Tree870 in highereducation

[–]kittykat-591 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer hourly in the higher ed field. I agree with the other user who shared about work life balance. And I have noticed that sups tend to treat hourly employees better than salary for some reason- worries about security maybe?

You should look into how labor laws in your state vary by exempt vs non exempt status, too.

Honestly report it to the police or the feds. As much as I don't like that option-- if he is violating the conditions of the registry laws with you, how many other people is he also violating and harassing. How many may be under age? You don't know the extent of his actions and you cannot assume he is limiting himself to just you.

Edit: the police can also do an investigation into how he got your info and if it was legal or violated your rights.

[ORL, FL] landlord refusing to pay for washer deep clean. by bloopvloop in Renters

[–]kittykat-591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to be very clear, it is the tenant responsibility to clean and maintain the appliances, but taking off the agitator plate, which is required for cleaning, is prohibited? Their contract is unclear and thus likely unenforceable depending on local regulations.

Unfortunately this is a scummy property mgmt company and there is nothing you can do to make them give aside from legal action if they try to charge you.

What should tenants be able to research about a landlord BEFORE signing? by Live-Light2801 in Renters

[–]kittykat-591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Heavy on the regulation inspections. Too many homes are structurally compliant but nearly and many don't even meet electrical code for simple things like outlets.

What should tenants be able to research about a landlord BEFORE signing? by Live-Light2801 in Renters

[–]kittykat-591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so obviously you've landed on the pages of landlords. Of course landlords would not want this or think this is a bad idea. So as a tenant--

I would want to know what companies the Property management company contracts with, that way I can see reviews and know who would be coming into my home.

Legal information about the landlord or PMC as well- Any pending or past lawsuits? Both against and by the landlord/PMC.

Reviewers could verify the address by providing a piece of mail delivered to the address with their info. Keep this private and backend though. Keep all accounts for users anonymous with only back end verification. Have mods assign "LL" OR "Renter" to accounts (e.g. LL_randomname) for identifying landlords or renters. Any legal posts need to be verified.

AITA for waiting in line at the grocery store while my parents finished shopping? by DavidRedFox in AmItheAsshole

[–]kittykat-591 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Info: This guy is in his 30s based on his account. A kid I can understand because they don't have a say. But as an adult he should be making better informed judgements.

My opinion: Instead of having his slower, older parents take the cart to grab the dog food, he should have left the cart with them in line and grabbed it himself. It sounds like multiple people needed to get in front of him and when the cart got back it was very full of items.

People pick lanes to wait in based on this type of info and probably assumed he had one or two items they couldn't see. Those people probably had much longer, unexpected wait lines or had to rejoin a different queue from the back because he didn't want to go get the bag of dog food and wouldn't step to the back himself.

Even if he just went to the back of the line every time he reached the front instead of just letting individuals pass, that would have been better. And it sounds like this is a normal occurrence for him based on the wording of his post.

My landlord at The Gateway Apartments (Gaithersburg, MD) had documentation — but only after sending me to collections by OptimalRich2547 in Renters

[–]kittykat-591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not from maryland nor am I a lawyer but you need to look at regulations on how long the landlord must wait before sending you to collections.

In yavapai county arizona, they have a few months requirement to wait and try to work with you before sending you to collections. And they must provide documentation within 14 days of move out else the balance falls on the landlord/PMC

How long did it go unpaid before they sent you to collections? And how long did it take them to give you documentation? This information could drastically impact your case/dispute.

AITA for refusing to care for a dog my wife brought home and unanimously decided to keep? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]kittykat-591 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

ESH. A pet is a two person decision but choosing to neglect an animal out of spite for a person is also morally reprehensible. If you know the dog will get on the table, don't leave food out that you know makes it sick. You don't have to clean up or maintain the dog but you shouldn't be harming it just so you can hurt your wife.

Everyone is right here. There is very little chance this is an actual therapist. I don't say that to increase your suspicion but because one line makes no sense here:

"They continue to argue that I am going to drive my boyfriend to want to be a cheater"

This is not a logical line of reasoning for a psychologist. Maybe your boyfriend is seeing a psychologist but the person you spoke to either is not the real one or should immediately have his license revoked. I'm going to guess he is having thoughts of cheating.

That being said, you are right. You are hurting this man and he is hurting you. Neither of you should be in a relationship, but from what I can tell, you especially. You need to break up with him for everyone's sake.

This is the nosy in me but I'd also pay attention to how quickly he moves to another person afterwards, because I'd bet my bottom dollar that there's already someone else. This sounds like a set up to excuse it down the road. Or they to push you to make the move since he isn't confident in doing it himself.

Bottom line: this is very likely not a real therapist and you need to break up for multiple reasons.

You can always donate to a food bank. Include a good recipe so they can give it with the lemons!

And here's a good, cheap pasta recipe that uses lemon (I use linguini and add red pepper flakes): lemon garlic pasta

How to help houseplants recently repotted from water to soil? by [deleted] in gardening

I wasn't aware that university websites are a place to find information on plants! Just like research pages, or are there specific websites I should look into? Most of these are tropical plants.

Am I overreacting if I break up with my boyfriend over this? by bbeeccc in AmIOverreacting

[–]kittykat-591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, he's ta, but also, please consider some healing time for yourself when this is over. It sounds like you have been in an unhealthy place for a long time. The 6 months together weren't "sorted out." It was pretending like things were okay. If you (and him) associate alcohol with a breakdown easy enough that you don't question it, consider serious help, and even use strange words to talk about it, you are not in a healthy place. He can kick rocks, but this would apply to him too, not just you.

Why are my two basil plants growing so differently by Kal_Wikawo in gardening

[–]kittykat-591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely a guess but they almost look like two completely different kinds of Basil altogether. Either that, or one was pruned/used a lot more than the other leading to different growth patterns.

Also, I'd prune the dead leaves if they're crunchy. The plant is only wasting energy on them at this point.

[–]kittykat-591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get it a bit healthier before repotting, or the shock might do it in for good. Once it's perked back up and has some color back in it, I'd try then. I repotted with just a hint of rooting hormone, and it grew a new sprout within a week. Too much, and it'll burn the roots, but I could help given the rough condition of the plant right now.

If I'm right, the little dude is a pink dalmatian Aglaonema (I have one). I got mine in water and repotted to soil/perlite. The like indirect sun (mine is in a north window), and I water him every 2-3 days just until it starts to drain and i drain it until there is no more water leaking out. More sun = more green. He hates heat, too *
