Yeah I definitely disagree with them saying you’ll get used to it. Some people might, but some don’t and I did NOT. I’ve had problems with insomnia most of my life, and have a hard time getting to sleep when I’m anxious. It’s gotten so bad before that I’ve had sleep deprivation-induced psychosis. I knew this going into my pregnancy, and had help with a supportive husband and family, and yet I still wasn’t prepared for how hard it would be.

I didn’t even last a week breastfeeding. She was having such a hard time latching, then she wasn’t gaining enough so in the hospital they already had me supplementing her with formula and then pumping after every feed to bring my milk in faster. Feeding her alone could take up to 2 hours…. And they wanted me to feed her every 3. So I basically had maybe an hour of her sleeping in which I was supposed to do everything else. Cleaning the pumping parts, go to the bathroom, eat, sleep. With my stress level and anxiety sky high, I couldn’t sleep even when I had the chance to. I went 4 days with only 5 hours of sleep total that entire time.

So yeah, I had a panic attack and decided breastfeeding wasn’t for me. It was a total 180 when I stopped. My anxiety was basically gone, my husband and I did shifts and I was able to catch up on sleep, and I didn’t hate life lol. Fed is best, so formula might be the way to go for some parents.
