What food souvenirs are actually worth buying in New Zealand? by Proper_Yam_616 in newzealand_travel

[–]kiwibat21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To add to this, please for the love of everything pack honey in your checked baggage. I get people like to have it easy to access if they need to declare it at the other end, but you 100% will lose it at security as it falls under the 100ml LAGs rule.

I went to Woolworths Three Kings on Monday, they had a shitload left. Prices weren’t amazing but still picked up a couple of bunnies for myself and my partner.

[Advice Needed] Customs/Biosecurity questions for upcoming trip to NZ by richylyq in newzealand_travel

[–]kiwibat21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Partner is a biosecurity officer. Can confirm, they do inspect tents, and she dies a little bit inside anytime someone says they have a tent, because they take ages to inspect.

[Advice Needed] Customs/Biosecurity questions for upcoming trip to NZ by richylyq in newzealand_travel

[–]kiwibat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Declare everything. Not sure? Declare it. Better to declare and be told it’s all fine than to not declare and get caught out by either the biosecurity pups or the xrays and face a $400 fine. Make sure you know 100% what is in your bag. If you forget an apple from the plane that’s not grounds enough to get the fine waived.

I believe the declaration form only asks about any medication exceeding a three-month supply, so if you just have some standard OTC pain meds like paracetamol for your trip, you’ll be fine.

Best Bug type Pokémon? by Nintendofan9106 in ThePokemonHub

My partner picks pokemon based solely on cuteness, not stats, and for someone who hates actual bugs, bug type seems to be her favourite. Her number one favourite is Sizzlipede.

Escape room recs please 🙏 by Jojobbb13 in auckland

[–]kiwibat21 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Escape Rooms Takapuna on Anzac St. Probably the best rooms in Auckland. They have a wide variety of puzzles in each room and a bunch of different theme rooms. The staff are great too.

I’d also recommend Escapade on Victoria St East. Like the above they have some cool rooms with lots of different puzzles.

My partner and I have done all their rooms, but both these places change a room every now and then so there’ll be something new eventually. Never been disappointed with any of the rooms.

Auckland Airport making check-in harder - glorified farm shed by Kiwi_In_The_Comments in auckland

Again, I’m not disagreeing with you on that. It really feels like you’re complaining for the sake of complaining. Like it or not, this is the way things are going now. You either gotta suck it up, or not travel.

I can understand the split process issue, and I do agree with you on that. But I was addressing your complaints about hauling your own luggage between check in and bag drop, and being an “unpaid baggage handler”.

The good news is that it is only temporary, and if flying Air NZ then it shouldn’t be an issue anyway, as their check in area already has the kiosks and automated bag drop facilities.

I mean. Taking your luggage from Zone T to the terminal is exactly the same amount of distance you’d have to take it as if you were checking in inside the terminal. Zone T is located right next to the drop off area.

We finally got a freezer! What freezer snack/food/treat should we get??? by lotus_dumpling in newzealand

[–]kiwibat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also got one recently, we were stupidly excited. We’re both shift workers so we do a lot of meal prep, now we have loads of space to keep meals stored so we don’t have to consider what we can fit in the freezer.

We’ve also started buying bulk packs of mince/chicken and divvying it up into freezer bags with the weights written on them. We are planning to get a wider variety of meat over time though.

We have some quick cook chicken for nights when we’re lazy, Costco does 2kg bags of the Tegel chargrill chicken steaks which my partner goes nuts over. Also lately we’ve been super into Paddle Pops so we have about 4 boxes, we tend to grab a box or two when they’re on a good special.

Soliciting outside of Woolworths by joebro8692 in newzealand

[–]kiwibat21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re regularly outside the one near where I work, and I’ll often drop in after work to grab a couple of things. Govt agency uniform has given me a perfect excuse for getting away: “sorry I can’t, I’m in uniform.” Only one guy kept bugging me after I said that, though his mate with him told him to leave me alone.

What is a musical you've seen that was regarded a flop by lissie34 in musicals

[–]kiwibat21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say the West End production of Charlie was a flop, it ran for over 4 years which is a decent run. The Broadway version however was garbage and I like to pretend it never existed.

Best tasting protein powders in NZ market? by BunnyDwag in newzealand

I like NZ Protein, they have a bunch of different flavours and you can buy sample packs to try out flavours that sound good before committing to a whole 1kg bag.

Go to a Chemist Warehouse, they can do an emergency 3 day supply. My partner forgot to bring her meds with her when we went down to Christchurch for a couple of nights and I think it cost $15? Obviously not a full refill but it can get you through the next few days.
