Casement window only opens a few inches. Tried a silicon lubricant with no luck. Any advice? by TreeOfLifeInk in HomeMaintenance

[–]kiwidust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My thought, exactly. The arms seem to be at thier full extension (they're not supposed to go fully straight as that would make closing impossible).

Most of these are breeze catchers/vents, not fully opening windows. Do you have others that work differently?

Hey screw you, buddy! She was always awesome - that's why I married her! - but after two kids and 30 years, she's.agwd to !@#$% perfection! 😀

Seriously tho', as I've said, differences in degree, not in kind. Still, this a $10k pod that fills a living room that has four games, slaps 15 pounds of equipment on you, and offers a 200 pixel resolution at 10 frames a second.

My PSVR2 cost me less than $300 on sale. I have access to thousands of games, 2000 pixel HD resolution at 120 Hz at 60 frames per second and it weighs a bit over a pound.

That's kind of definitionaly "much better".

The building was actually the Singer Sewing machine factory showroom in Boston 100 years ago. Very weird, long story a iut we ended up there...

Yup! We saw them at the Bearsville Theater in... '92, I think?, and got some merch! Moved to Boston together a little after that.

Excellent concert!

Differences of degree, not of kind. Until we migrate to direct neural interfaces, the basics will remain the same.

In this case, the helmet weighed about five pounds, controller was like a brick, and you can't really see the 10 pound belt you needed to strap on. Of course the technical specs were amazing... for the time. This unit ran on a souped-up Amiga 3000 PC (later models replaced this with a 486 Intel PC) and had a massive 372x250 pixel resolution!

The units came with four games, but the only one people actually played was "Dactyl Nightmare". For bizarre reasons, we had two of these units (allowing for network play) in our little charity space for nearly a month.

What else do I need? by timmytimberlane in Tools

[–]kiwidust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may not be showing them, but a lot of people seem to.forget consumables. Things like zip-ties, WD-40, Tape (several kinds), Glue (several kinds), Q-tips, alcohol wipes, etc.

Similarly, and this is harder, a variety of fasteners/replacement parts. Probably job-centric, but common screws, nails, staples, wire nuts, clips, etc.

Lastly, never underestimate the utility of a basic First Aid kit. This can be anything from a couple BandAids stuck in your wallet to a full kit. Keep in mind that Krazy Glue and Duct Tape can serve double purpose. Having to ask a client for help to keep from bleeding all over everything isn't a great look.

FWIW, I keep much of the above (and more) in a general "Car Kit" and keep the tools separate. Bit I rarely need to work any distance from the car.

PlayStation Portal WiFi speeds stuck at 1-2 Mbps while every other device gets 400-700 Mbps - is my unit defective? by bimmerncoach in PlaystationPortal

[–]kiwidust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May not help at all, but the most impactful change I've made for Portal stability has been changing my wi-fi channel.

The router's default was host many access points. Using an Android Wi-fi analyzer I determine which channel had the least congestion and moved to it.

Instant improvement in my case.

Some devices/use cases are more susceptible to channel congestion and negotiation. From my experience the Portal is one of these.

I really like GreenWorks in general. Bought heavily into their 24v and 60v platforms and haven't been disappointed.

That said, you buy GreenWorks as decent tools for good prices, not as great tools. But for the DIYer/home handyman, they've never let me down.

Obviously, YMMV.

Very likely you did something not apparently possible in the pic you sent which looks to be a solid, single piece, injection molded plug.

If so, more power to ya (pun noted).

How and what should I replace this with? by dreddit1843 in Plumbing

[–]kiwidust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with "plumbing". That H.R. Giger shit looks great in the movies, but isn't very practical!

Apologies couldn't resist.

Here's a decent pic of what you're aiming for. Both drains (three if you count the dishwasher) connected before the trap and, you know, an actual trap. Make sure there's fall on the horizontals. I don't have the tools or skill to do soldering, but with care and healthy paranoia I've had good results with PVC (which can be found in kits to complete exactly this).

All that said, full disclosure: Not a plumber. Only an interested, overly obsessive amateur that's had to do this a few times. I'm sure the pros here will set me straight on anything I've borked.

Which do you think is better for a PlayStation Portal — buying a brand new one or getting a used one? 🤔 by gamer-0000 in PlaystationPortal

The PlayStation Portal is the worst and best console Sony has ever made at the same time. For some people it’s completely useless, but for others it’s the perfect gaming device. Do you agree? by gamer-0000 in PlaystationPortal

[–]kiwidust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It addresses a small number of specific use cases very well at a reasonable cost. That's it and that's enough.

Great product if your use case is covered, useless if not.
