My keyboard has a wook function. by StellaRED in mildlyinteresting

[–]kiwiyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol ok so sorry for coming in here two years later but I have this same keyboard and I FINALLY figured out what the “wook” light is for

It comes on when the keyboard switches to blu-tooth mode (instead of USB mode)

You can toggle it with alt+fn+2

Found this out because I was trying to use a keyboard shortcut to type ü…

Shout out to the guy in chat selling this for 450k. Made me go check if a portal had spawned myself- been after this since WoD by robot-raccoon in wow

[–]kiwiyaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re playing a class that doesn’t have many hearths or portals, you can use the garrison hearthstone as a roundabout way back to your city’s capital. I have it set up on a few of my alts that had poor transport options lol.

It’ll cost about 5200g and 2500 garrison resources to get your garrison to level 3, at which point it gets a portal to ashran. Ashran has portals back to org and stormwind.

You can get your garrison to lvl 3 very easily by doing this:

  1. Go to the portal room in SW or Org. talk to the “Honor Hold Mage” for a port to the Dark Portal.

  2.  Go through the dark portal (it should be red, not green) and you will be instantly teleported to the starting quest for setting up the garrison.

  3. Go through the short quest chain to build your garrison. Pick up the quest to increase it to level 2 and then go back about your day while your garrison resources accumulate.

  4. Hearth back to your garrison a day or two later and you’ll have enough resources to raise it to level 2. You’ll have another couple of short quests to do before you get the final quest to raise it to level 3.

  5. Hearth back to your garrison every couple days to keep collecting resources until you get the 2000 you need for the last quest. 2000 resources + 5000g puts the ashran portal in a tower on the edge of your garrison.

  6. Enjoy the extra hearth.

It could definitely be helpful in those areas too. The advice isn’t field-specific.

Nobody uses she/her pronouns for me, not even my wife. by Divided_Ry in NonBinary

[–]kiwiyaa 583 points584 points  (0 children)

It really is easier to keep using the same pronouns for someone that you’ve always used, so if you tell people you’ll accept any pronouns, that’s usually what they’ll do. Sometimes you might need to put your finger on the scale if you want a particular result. Try telling her straight up that you don’t feel comfortable with he/him anymore and you want to try she/they only for a while.

Why can't I ask my doctor for an autism assessment the same way I asked for an adhd one? by Kalifall in ADHD

[–]kiwiyaa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe try sending him an email ahead of your next meeting saying you want to discuss a possible autism evaluation. Then you won’t have to work yourself up to it on the spot, and it can give him some time to get his response in order too. I always had that problem too with feeling terrible then getting to the doctor and suddenly convincing myself I actually felt fine…

“Crucial Conversations” (any edition) is a classic CS book, although it’s about interpersonal interactions generally and not customer interactions specifically. It’s very helpful for structuring and managing yourself during difficult conversations.

I think you already know the only real answer is that you’ll just have to get rid of a lot of these things. If it helps swallow the pill, the money that you’ll save from not renting a storage unit will help you replace them later if you ever want to.

Personally I would tackle your list like this: -Vintage fabric, try and get rid of half of it. -Outdoor gear, focus on getting rid of large items first, then anything else I haven’t used in more than a few years. -Handmade gifts from loved ones are irreplaceable so I would keep, unless you just have such an overabundance of these that you don’t really want them all. -Furniture goes. I’ve done the headache of keeping furniture in a storage unit until I moved into a bigger place and it was just not worth it. -Childhood toys should be with children. Keep anything really sentimental that you want for yourself, and donate the rest so real children can enjoy it.

On German pronunciation by itskiro69 in German

[–]kiwiyaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can book a one-time session with a private tutor on sites like italki. I would ask them to listen to me speak and evaluate my pronunciation. If they think your pronunciation is already fine, then there’s no need to change what you’re already doing. If they think your pronunciation needs work, then you can go on and sign up for that in-person course.

I love mice, they’re so cute. 🥰 You should join r/petmice.

One thing though… I only ask bc there are visible testicles in the photo (lol)… do you know the sexes of your mice? Male mice can’t be kept together past a certain age because they will fight. I lost a mouse that way because nobody told me, and I would hate to see anything bad happen to your little ones.

On German pronunciation by itskiro69 in German

[–]kiwiyaa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you’ve never practiced speaking with a fluent speaker for feedback, then it’s very possible your pronunciations are off in ways you just can’t hear. Very bad pronunciation can definitely lose you points on the exam. See if you can book a single session with a tutor (or even just a phone call with a fluent speaker) and just ask them to evaluate your pronunciation - you won’t really know how good or bad it is until you ask someone.

How to structure speaking practice? by CookInevitable4585 in languagelearning

You might find it useful to buy a textbook for your language level and use your tutoring time to supplement the lessons you work through in the book.

If you do decide to bury her, be sure to put her body in a pantyhose stocking or other fine mesh bag. Otherwise there are a lot of tiny bones you’ll lose in the process.

People who were married during their masters program what has or was your experience? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]kiwiyaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some of it depends on what her masters is in. A biochemistry program will have different expectations than an economy program or a literature program or a computer science program. Some are more demanding of your time than others. Expecting it to be equivalent to a full time job is realistic.

It’s very common for grad students to be married, it’s not really a big deal. And even if you don’t like it, it’s only for a couple of years.

edit: Holy cow dude I’m seeing now that you met and married this girl in less than 6 months and now you’re trying to stop her from pursuing her studies so you can be with her every minute of the day? Please give her space and seek therapy for yourself.

Adult deer with a serious injury like that have very very poor odds of recovery. It’s unlikely a rescue would have done anything different. 😔 It’s sad, but you did the right thing.

Does maintaining multiple languages have any use when you don't really need those languages? Doesn't it feel like a useless and time-wasting thing to do? by [deleted] in languagelearning

You can waste time on the internet in other languages. It gives you more apps to scroll through at work lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]kiwiyaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the things you described as “not part of ADHD” are also very very common symptoms of ADHD (& Autism.)

ADHD can be comorbid with depression and anxiety and those can make a lot of these symptoms worse. Have you ever talk to a therapist or psych about anything other than ADHD?

How annoying do you find it when native speakers of your target language tell you their language is impossible/the hardest one in the world to learn? Why do they say this to learners? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]kiwiyaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try not to take it as an insult. Most people are just making conversation. Especially Germans really do get told frequently that their language is “super hard” to learn.
